Not a great first two months to start the year. March should be better but that’s quite a hole to dig out of to start. At this point I am guessing we don’t match 2024.

February numbers

Passengers
Down 7.6% vs February 2024
Down 5.5% YTD

Not STL specific. Airport traffic and passengers have been down in almost all markets since January. Google it.
1) Trump affect
2) Economy (see above)
3) Intl travel down (see above)
4) airline cuts
5) airplane crashes/accidents (see #1)
In addition to flight worries due to DOGE cuts in FAA
6) tourism low
7) bad weather across the country in Jan/Feb coast to coast = delays and cancels

This entire year has been bad for anything in air / passenger traffic. Period.

It’s definitely down in general but 7% is pretty steep compared to others. A lot of it had to do with Southwests schedule which was much better in March. So I would expect March to have better numbers.

March numbers for STL

Passengers down 6.3% vs March 2024
Passengers down 5.8% YTD vs 2024

Better than February but not great. Expected Match to be much closer to flat.

When will we have March/April boarding for LH? I think there’s a good chance that STL loses FRA if international travel and general economy continue as is.

March from customs was
Lufthansa Frankfurt 87.29%

2024 march was 83% (DOT number)

Customs numbers come out about a week into the next month so April will be out around May 7th. Customs usually come in a point or two higher than DOT, I have no clue why. DOT is the official number. DOT is on a 3 months lag. So in May they will release February numbers.

So far I’m not that worried as numbers keep tracking ahead of 2024 to this point

I could see Florida getting hammered if the Canadian “boycott” continues. They have to be a decent percentage of people going there.

Why are we even subsidizing air service to Cape Girardeau? I thought ESA subsidies were intended for communites that were a little more isolated

Trump proposes $308M in EAS cuts

The EAS program funnels taxpayer dollars to airlines to subsidize half-empty flights from airports that are within easy commuting distance from each other, while also failing to effectively provide assistance to most rural air travelers. Spending on programs is out of control, more than doubling between 2021 and 2025. The Budget reins in EAS subsidies by proposing a mix of reforms to adjust eligibility and subsidy rates to help rural communities’ air transportation needs in a more sustainable manner. This would save American taxpayers over $300 million from the 2025 level

Cape isn’t even the worst one. Decatur has EAS and it has 2 airports within an hour away with service (Champaign and Springfield)
