Let’s go!
I don’t have a great answer but..JaneJacobsGhost wrote: ↑Dec 24, 2024Not Lambert specific but airport related. Can one of the air travel buffs educate me as to why O’hare has dropped from a comfy position as the second busiest US airport all the way back to 5th busiest? (Passenger traffic)
Denver has 3 airline hubs now with Southwest and United both really fighting it out and expanding.
DFW is basically becoming AA’s version of Delta at Atlanta.
I kind of figured LAX has been ahead of them for awhile. Technically it’s a semi hub for about everyone.
I think AA has contracted a bit at ORD so that’s probably hurt them some.
As a Chicagoan, hoping it falls even further. United and American have each exceeded their capacity. Chicagoans are paying the price with slower aviation. 45 minutes on the tarmac due to lack of available gates last week.

I think it is due to both AA (Dallas) and United (Denver) not emphasizing Chicago as their focus? And maybe that is due to capacity or weather? Denver needs relief. Flew through there on Southwest to Palm Springs and a THUNDERSTORM ended up with a multiple hours delay. Ridiculous. When we finally boarded I counted over 20 planes backed up to take off.
Oh - and Airline consolidation. American added Charlotte, Phoenix and Philly when they picked up US Air; United picked up Denver, Newark and Houston with Continental. Some of the routes may have moved.

Not sure this has been posted here yet but 4Hands and Peacemaker are collaborating on a new restaurant in Terminal 2. Great to see more investment at Lambert.

Our lobster is [flown in by] Southwest. We’re literally right there by the cargo. We’re daily at the airport, sometimes twice a day, for the fish for all our restaurants,” Nashan says.
I was at PDX over Christmas and thought PDX looked rather dumpy tbh. The wood might help, was kind of interesting, but that airport was odd. Some areas were nice, some new, and some areas were older, cold & musty or completely shut down...very weird. Couldn't get a good feel for the place, however, they did have a nice set up for rental cars.moorlander wrote: ↑Dec 04, 2024Why can’t we have nice things too?
Have you seen Portland’s new airport?
One of my favorite YouTube channels just featured it.
Hok officially chosen to design the new terminal per the airport commission meeting today

HOK also has the Lawerence Group as part of its team, entire team is localjshank83 wrote: ↑Jan 02, 2025Hok officially chosen to design the new terminal per the airport commission meeting today

Yeah, HOK is one of the world heavyweights when it comes to airport design.
I had no idea that they designed LaGuardia Airport Terminal B. Incredible transformation. In my opinion, tt went from one of the dumpiest to one of the nicest airports in the country.dbInSouthCity wrote: ↑Jan 02, 2025https://www.hok.com/projects/view/lagua ... terminalb/Auggie wrote: ↑Jan 02, 2025What other airports has HOK designed?
So excited at the news!! HOK has a demonstrated track record of designing some of the most beautiful airport transformations! The new LaGuardia, the new SLC airport, Hamad International Airport in Doha and the new redesign of T5 at O'Hare - that's quite the list! I'm on pins and needles with the design reveal!
If I remember correctly, HOK was a big help in St. Louis’s Amazon HQ2 proposal which included a T2 update. I could be wrong.

^I still can't believe we didn't even make the final conversation. Maybe the airport will dust some of that off for an amenity/convention expansion after the terminal redesign is complete. It'd make a great airport adjacent convention hotel. Of course the trainsets themselves are an interesting fantasy.
Amazon literally chose the NYC metro area. The whole thing was a joke. They were never considering anywhere outside of LA, CHI, or NY.

Yeah, but New York refused incentives so it landed in Northern VA 8k employees, and then tech hub in Nashville 6k employees
So they were definitely looking elsewhere.

The whole thing was a scam. Good for Little Rock (I think it was) who told Amazon to screw off at the beginning.

Hahaha, yeah they did. Forgot about that!
