T2 is bursting at the seams today, multiple planes have been waiting on the tarmac for most of the morning. Love seeing all those fins lined up!

Looks like they could honestly have gates lined up to T1 and open another TSA checkpoint from there

Great pic, thanks fpr posting pdm_ad
Photo tells me that Lambert's terminal modernization can't happen fast enough and probably should have happened yesterday.

Any word on reopening more gates in D? Seems like this would need to happen for SW to grow before new concourse is built.

Dropped off my brother at 8:15am and he said TSA was 5 min at T2 and just dropped off my mom for a Lufthansa flight and she said it’s chaos.
Great pic!
MDW had really bad fog Friday night and Saturday morning so we got a bunch of diversions that overnighted Friday night. At one point Saturday morning there were at least 4 planes next to each other all waiting to go to MDW.

Just a quick Lufthansa experience post...
We are currently in Spain and flew Dec. 24th flight from STL to FRA to MAD. We have flown this flight many times in the past year to visit family.
1) easy and friendly check in. Long line but moved quickly. The counter service was great.
2) The gate service was good but could have used a little more volume on the speaker system.
3) the flight was full. We noticed most passengers on this particular flight were multiple foreign speaking languages. We normally experience on these flights which is great to see!
4) The plane was 11 years old and very clean. We took the Premium Economy (for a few hundred more a seat... premium economy is fantastic on Lufthansa BTW). Good pleasant service as usual and the food is quite good. The menu is always (for all classes) limited to two choices (as most airlines have gone to after Covid).
5) Transfer to our Madrid flight in Frankfurt was seamless and quick this time (due to less people traveling on Christmas eve). We have experienced high volume waits in FRA for immigration to next to short waits... it is hard to get a reading on what you will encounter and when in that airport.
6) Our connection was to a A321 and easier this time... as many connection flights at FRA you need to take a bus from the gate and board on the tarmac as that airport is highly over capacity.
Overall, better than most US carriers IMO and love being able to fly in/out our our city on this airline. Obviously, this flight is doing extremely well with capacity

Side note:
Love hearing Terminal 2 wide announcements while waiting to board flight.
"Lufthansa paging Barcelona passenger, someone (can't remember name) please see the gate agent at gate E29"

My mom was on that flight and I think pretty close to you, she was in 16D
(for a non biz traveler she probably has used the STL to FRA flight more than anyone else since last June, this was the 6th flight)

Wow crazy. Small world. We were 16A and 16C. I saw your Mother then ... she didn't sleep too well. LOL. So strange. Out of all of a full wide body plane she was next to us. Spooky man.

She goes to Austria once every 3-4 months, her sister and brother live there. Only thing that sucks is she has a long layover in Frankfurt before a flight to Linz, usually 4-5 hours
Took a night Chicago to St. Louis flight recently. Flight was full of people connecting from far flung destination in the Middle East and Asia. Cool to see so much international travel coming to STL. It also confirmed my earlier thoughts about the LH flight and how people more used to flying longer think the product is average while people who mostly fly locally disagree.
AA is in oneworld, which also has Qatar airways and Royal Jordanian. Both of these airlines offer a much higher quality of service than Lufthansa does but come with the disadvantage of having a stop in Amman or Doha as well as Chicago. Consequently, most of the international bags had tags from those two airlines. This goes to show that while European travelers have shifted to taking the LH flight (only saw a few Euro bags with Iberia tags and Spain is much faster through ORD anyways), a large number of people taking ultra long-haul flights still prefer an extra stop because the quality-of-service matters more when you are spending 20 hours getting to your destination.

That being said the new AA premium economy has much better seats and food than LH, so hopefully LH ups the bar as well. Maybe soon!

I thought AA biz class was very nice, flew it back from Portugal in August but the biz class on Iberia (flew it to Portugal via Madrid) was just brutal.
And yet... our experience on AA from Barcelona to Miami and also Madrid to Miami were awful before Covid and last spring. Old planes, non-existent service, bitchy service and even one flight ran out of food on dinner service. Half of plane did not eat. No vouchers issued or anything. Had to call to complain and all we got was some points. We were in Biz Class on Barcelona to MIA and they never even boarded us early or first. Then video system didn't even work. I despise that airline.
Well, American Airlines despises you so nyah nyah nyah.matguy70 wrote: ↑Dec 30, 2023And yet... our experience on AA from Barcelona to Miami and also Madrid to Miami were awful before Covid and last spring. Thankfully I don't travel much for work any more. But one consultant I do work with and is stuck with AA purposely travels with a content loaded personal iPad because they never know if they'll have wifi during the flight.
Is this a bad time to say
Looking ahead to January.
AA
all mainline on LGA
3rd daily to PHX
2 daily to MIA

^Ever again, I think you mean, but yes. (I always like to reminisce about my first flight when someone says that: aboard a TWA L-1011 from Lambert o JFK T-5 when it was still an airport, and then on to Frankfurt. Hit DeGaule and Dulles on the way back. It was almost a classic terminal extravaganza. (Also toured Zurich's airport thanks to a train connection at the airport, if you can believe that, and flew from Geneva to CDG. Zurich struck me as a pretty sweet airport at the time.) Ah, *sigh* those really were the days.
Our flight from Spain to FRA to STL on Dec 31 was seamless and great. The FRA to STL was on an newer 8 year old aircraft and the crew was the best ever - amazing. The flight was (my guess) 90% or more full. As usual, a lot of international travelers as well as ethnic groups. Great to see. In fact, fewer families were on this particular flight (could be the holiday). Anyway, just wanted to share experience.
Have a great NEW YEAR!

Does STL advertise tourism at all internationally? Particularly in Germany/the Frankfort area?
Just booked for the inaugural flight on May 2nd. They currently have great prices $166 USD one way. I’ll fly into St. Louis from Chicago in the morning.jshank83 wrote:
On a side note. Air Canada finally announced the Montreal-STL flight, which was loaded in the schedule 3 months ago.
