I have been checking seats on Lufthansa STL to FRA and FRA to STL for all of July and into August - almost all economy is nearing sold or at least 70 to 80 percent. Good looking. Someone I read that bookings were at 80 percent full on most flights.
They said 90% thru August at the inaugural.

Anyone else think the Lufthansa app is absolute trash. I upgraded to biz class for a flight in September and you couldn't tell that on the app, it fact it even said upgrade didn't go through but my card was charged and when I login to my Lufthansa account on their desktop website it clearly says that the flight was upgraded
Website is bad too. I booked through United just to avoid itdbInSouthCity wrote:Anyone else think the Lufthansa app is absolute trash. ^You can do that? They’re not the same company so I didn’t know

^ United codeshares, I booked my flight originally through United because it was cheaper (somehow) but when I went to select seat and upgrade it kicked me over to Lufthansa
Usually airlines in the same alliance you can book thru any one that is going to be in a country you touch. So if you fly Air Canada to Toronto you can also book it thru United in most cases. It just gives you more options. So you could book a round trip ticket that flys STL-FRA-Munich on Lufthansa out then back Munich-Toronto-STL on Air Canada. It’s all on the same ticket and you buy it thru United or Lufthansa. Even though you aren’t flying United at all.chriss752 wrote: ↑Jul 08, 2022^You can do that? USA airlines in alliances
Star alliance is United
One world is AA and Alaska
Skyteam is Delta
But as DB mentions in many cases no matter who you book it through in many cases you have to pick your seats through the actual airline flying the flight. So for the one ticket example if you book it thru United you would have go to Lufthansa to pick your seats for the flight out and then air Canada to pick them for your flight home. I think you get separate confirmation numbers for the different airlines.

^ right, I have a United confirmation number (which is just really for book keeping purposes at this point) and the Lufthansa who handles everything going forward.
I think I can add my passport stuff through United still tho
I think I can add my passport stuff through United still tho
Also the reason delta flies a lot to Paris from hubs (Air France is in their alliance) and Amsterdam (KLM)
AA flies to London (British airways is in theirs)
United to Frankfurt (Lufthansa), Toronto (Air Canada)
Lots more you can look up if interested but those are the most mentioned.
I looked at United's website for three travel times for Lufthansa and found it cost like $2000 each more through them than through Lufthansa. I don't understand that bit. I thought they'd be the same price-wise.
For example, here's a comparison for like the middle of December on each. Throw in +$80, since that's what seat costs were on Lufthansa's website for the same thing, and the difference is then $2050. I don't get it. But at least I now know there are options to book flights through different airlines if need be.

I had the same experience. Wanted to book United just to maximize benefits and avoid problems using a United mileage credit card, but the same flights were several times more costly on United's site. I used my United number booking on Lufthansa, so hopefully it all sorts out.chriss752 wrote:I looked at United's website for three travel times for Lufthansa and found it cost like $2000 each more through them than through Lufthansa. We're looking at going somewhere over the pond on a family trip in Sept, anything direct to FRA is $1100+ each way, however if you feel like playing the system you can book STL - Tunisia (which I want to go to, just not sure now's the time for $550 OW and it connects through FRA and get off there. Same with the return, although I don't think you'd be able to get on at FRA if you checked in elsewhere. Many cities connect through FRA on the way home and are quite a bit cheaper than a direct flight from FRA.
^I thought I read somewhere before that this type of thing is looked down upon and could result in you being booted from future flights on an airline if they figure out you did this.
Chances are they would cancel any future tickets you have booked with them. I think I’ve heard sometimes they also will void your frequency flyer miles.
So, I wasn't crazy in thinking what I thought. Good to have confirmation of it. Because sometimes there are good deals if you route through a certain city you want to go to, but there are downsides. In this case, having itineraries canceled and maybe your miles deleted.jshank83 wrote: ↑Jul 12, 2022Chances are they would cancel any future tickets you have booked with them. ^In my experience if you don't board the second flight they cancel the rest of your itinerary.
Which is fine if you're only going on a 1 way! I have heard of penalties, but don't have first hand experience.TheWayoftheArch_V2.0 wrote: ↑Jul 12, 2022^In my experience if you don't board the second flight they cancel the rest of your itinerary.

Also, can't really check a bag, as it will end up in the ticketed final destination. Probably not ideal on an international trip.
Just got back from Mexico and went through Customs at Lambert. Found it funny that on a plane of 194, myself and two others (not even the friends who went with me!) knew you had to fail out a little piece of paper to get back in. I was through Customs in like 2 minutes. My friends didn't come out for like 25 minutes because they, along with 191 other people, had to sit in there and fill out the paper.
It was a mess, but it got me thinking, why doesn't Lambert have that computerized system set up yet like JFK Airport? Obvious reason is probably passenger volume but having the Customs app on your phone where you will out the form on your phone and scan a QR code to let you in seems like the easiest thing to do and would probably lead to less confusion among returning Americans.
Branching off of this, how come no American city, that I've been to, has the passport control thing like the UK does. When I went there back in May, you just set your passport down on a computer, it then took your picture, and let you in. So easy and quick. A line of like 400 people went through these gates in like 12 minutes or less. The one thing I disliked about this system though is you don't get stamps for your book. I only have two stamps and those are entrance and exit ones for France. Even Mexico doesn't stamp a passport.
What I'm trying to get at here is that as we welcome Germans, and other Europeans to St. Louis, I wish there was a friendlier, more modern way for them to get into our country than go through it the old-fashioned way with papers and having to be questioned by a man or woman at a desk. We should try and aim for a better process if we eventually get more flights to Europe and beyond.

STL is piloting touchless, paperless global entry kiosks.chriss752 wrote: ↑Jul 13, 2022Just got back from Mexico and went through Customs at Lambert. Oh. So that's what those were sitting off to the side shut off. Unfortunate.
Weird. I’ve never known Global entry kiosks to be not working. Maybe you just happened on a day they weren’t. I haven’t used mine yet but I’m under the impression you skip everything with it. You do it all on at the kiosk and then skip talking to someone.chriss752 wrote: ↑Jul 13, 2022Oh. So that's what those were sitting off to the side shut off. Unfortunate.
“At airports, program members proceed to Global Entry kiosks, present their machine-readable passport or U.S. permanent resident card, place their fingerprints on the scanner for fingerprint verification and complete a customs declaration. The kiosk issues the traveler a transaction receipt and directs the traveler to baggage claim and the exit.
Travelers must be pre-approved for the Global Entry program. All applicants undergo a rigorous background check and in-person interview before enrollment.“
There used to be an app called mobile passport, that I have used before. Which was pretty much global entry but free. You filled it out on your phone after you landed. You didn’t have to talk to the person in the booth, you bypassed them got your bags and just showed your phone to the officer at the last door. Not all airports had it but most major hubs did… except Detroit…..
Now the app is called mobile passport control (guessing this is what you used at JFK). You still fill it out on your phone but I think now you have to talk to the person. Not all airports have it, including STL. I think KC just got it.
Mobile passport is for US and Canadian citizens only. Global Entry is available for US LPR as well as nationals of a few other countries (Germany, UK, Argentina, South Korea and a few others).
I have Global Entry and have seen it unavailable a couple times at EWR and IAD.
Regarding the customs forms that have to be filled, I know for a fact that this is being phased out from a lot of destinations. These seem to be mostly European destinations so maybe it's some sort of protocol with specific countries. I had forgotten the last time I had to fill one of these until a few months ago when I had to fill it returning from the Dominican Republic (coincidentally my first international flight into STL, so maybe it has to do with the destination airport? Idk)
