DB, I'll be in Alaska next week. We need to stop following each other.

I have yet to experience a truly crowded airport since I'm a new flyer. The busiest airport I was at was Nashville in August of last year and even then, it wasn't that bad. TSA took 15 minutes (would've been shorter if two ladies didn't argue with them about bringing their large, open bottles of wine and whiskey through security). When I flew in January of this year down to Panama City Florida, our airport was mostly quiet and Panama City Florida's airport was completely dead. Only me and my fellow passengers were there. I'm sure that's different now that it's summer, but I actually enjoyed it being so empty. Their airport isn't half bad either.

I recently flew from STL to LAX via SWA my flight (June 10)was an early flight 5:30 am
When I stepped into the ticket counter area (4:30am) of SWA the building was packed long snaking lines
I asked myself when did all these people get up this morning to get here?
And by the way LAX was packed thousands of people when I arrived . Phoenix was packed Denver was very busy

Only airport that seemed really busy that I have experienced since COVID was DEN.

When I flew to Ft Lauderdale on Southwest the week between Christmas and NYE 2020, I underestimated the security lines at Lambert. We signed up for CLEAR to avoid waiting in lines that were outside of the robe labyrinth. It may have moved faster than we would have expected, but the trial for CLEAR moved up right to the front. Perhaps that was also just a popular time, but longer lines that I saw pre pandemic.

I’ve been to Philly, El Paso, Tucson, London, Seattle, Juneau, Chicago, Dallas and a Denver airports since February and they’ve all been packed. Chicago probably the most packed. Stl was packed at 5:00am on Wednesday this week, my partner was stuck at TSA for a while (only 4 people in the tsa pre check line)
STL was packed midday when we flew in from Long Beach last Sunday (which, I'd totally recommend over LAX now that SWA does a nonstop - LGB is totally chill and almost all open air, and you get to leave the planes on the tarmac). Flight was almost full. Overall, a totally great experience at LGB. Good breakfast burritos too!

My experiences with STL through Covid and now, is that Terminal 2 has always been busy. Not the busiest mind you but decent travel numbers. Terminal 1 hasnt been at all but that is to be expected considering the business travel nature of that terminal and destinations.
Busiest airport ive been through was ATL. And their TSA line took all of 45 mins to clear. I normally show up to STL about 45 mins prior to flight and i would have been screwed except I was with people who like to arrive with much more lead time.

CLT 9PM on Sunday was the busiest I've seen any airport, ever, in my 12 years of frequent travel (at least the terminal, not volume of air traffic). Restaurants closed early, vending machines were empty, packed terminals. I was hungry and not happy!
At least to me, CLT is not set up the be the hub that it is. I know some of the things you describe are pandemic/labor related, but even before COVID that airport always seem overwhelmed.cteclipse wrote: ↑Jun 29, 2021CLT 9PM on Sunday was the busiest I've seen any airport, ever, in my 12 years of frequent travel (at least the terminal, not volume of air traffic). Last time I was in CLT in mid-2020 I remember food being hard to come by, restaurants that were open had absurd lines, and it took 45 minutes just to get a $12 combo from Burger King.
jshank, I wonder what percent of that 39% is business travel that may not return for a while, if ever? Leisure travel seems strong, if it's mainly biz travel that is missing then I would expect BLV to be closer to their 2019 levels than STL.
I think BLV will be over 2019 levels for summer.
I’d say at this point it’s all business and leisure probably is covering some of the gap.
What I am really curious to see is how Southwest plays things out. It sounds like they are having moral issues and voluntelling people to work overtime. Sounds like a rough situation on all levels. AA pulled the schedule back a bit to alleviate their issues but Southwest seems to just be pushing thru. We’ll see how they works for them. Might leave more room for Spirit to expand here.
Airport commission updates.
June 79% of 2019
A couple days over 2019 compared to same day 2019.
Leisure probably higher than 2019.
T1 still more thru security than T2
229k to 221k.
2 weeks ago 108k vs 112k this past week thru security.
Spirit still says the strongest startup market they have seen.
2 of 3 moving walkways in C opened today.
Covid vaccines available tomorrow at the airport.
Landing fee at $5.43
Prior Years
2015 $9.02
2016 $7.95
2017 $7.65
2018 $6.59
2019 $6.61
2020 $6.56
I would guess those landing fee numbers will help more air service show up here and a big reason Spirit came.

That almost makes me wish I needed another round of vaccination. Just for the excuse to go out to the airport. Almost.jshank83 wrote: ↑Jul 07, 2021Airport commission updates.

That's great news about the landing fees and moving walkways.
Thanks jshank.
Do you have historical #s for T1 vs T2? I'd be curious to see the trends over the last several years (or decade).

Does anyone know why T2 has only even numbered gates? Its not like they'd be able to put the odd numbered gates on the south side of the terminal. Always bugged me

I always thought it was to be consistent with other oncourses. The northern most sides of each A. C and E are all even while the opposite side odd. Must se some reason why the angled section of the E switches to odd before returning to even numbers again paralleling the original E.pappysoulard wrote: ↑Jul 08, 2021Does anyone know why T2 has only even numbered gates? During the airport lease drama I talked to one of the bidders and they said it was odd that SW was still in T2 and not flipped over to T1 because concessions were not maximizing profits because it was too crowded and people would give up waiting in line.
