Spirit adding daily flights to Cancun, Fort Myers, Tampa, Phoenix. Nice route map going already. Nine total routes announced by day 1.

In an article they said they maybe should be adding more.

I would love to see more northern routes. Detroit and Atlantic City would be nice!

A couple smaller notes.

Quincy voted to keep cape air for their air service so that should be unchanged for the next 4 years

Fort Leonard Wood voted to switch to Skywest. This will be a loss for the airport of a destination and airline (contour)

Contour did not rebid. FLW cited the need for a jet because of baggage issues when Cape ran the route in the past.

Where will the FLW flight go if not St. Louis?

Skywest flights go to chicago only and are United branded. They have picked off a bunch of routes from the prop providers.

Fort Leonard wood/Decatur/Cape Girardeau/Fort Dodge/a couple others have all switched to Skywest. Quincy did but switched back to Cape Air last time.

Southwest Airlines announced new direct service from St. Louis to San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Direct services will be weekly, on Saturdays, beginning November 13. Tickets go on sale June 10.

“We cannot be more excited to learn that Southwest is offering this direct service to San Juan,” said Rhonda Hamm-Niebruegge, STL Director in a media release. “We believe the people in our region are ready to take advantage of any direct service an airline serving St. Louis Lambert International Airport has to offer. We’re certain San Juan will become another of the successful destinations available for travelers using our airport.”

Hopefully all of this leads to STL becoming and operating base for Southwest.

I am being picky but I wish reporters (and our airport director apparently) would properly use the terms direct flight and nonstop flight. The words are interchanged frequently.

^^I was about to ask if this was also nonstop. I'm guessing that it is, but it's not completely clear from either the blurb or the news segment.

Yes both new ones are nonstop.

Nonstop and Direct.  Years ago DIRECT meant nonstop.  "nonstop" wasn't really used until the late 90's as more airlines starting calling DIRECT flights as flights with a stop(s) but no changing planes.  So yes, this terminology today really just means "nonstop".

^Fair enough. I first flew in the 90s so it makes sense I'd be accustomed to the new lingo.

^^ I think it's been around a lot longer than that. I started at TWA in 1993 and the terms were clearly defined by the industry back then. Ozark used to market 'direct' flights to RSW and SRQ when I first started flying in the early 80's.

Wiki says "The term "direct flight" is not legally defined in the United States,[3] but since the 1970s the Official Airline Guides have defined the term simply as a flight(s) with a single flight number."

^I was looking at my old TWA schedule booklet and I can't find a clear definition, but they do tell you how many stops a flight has or if you have to make a connection. (Only a few domestic destinations required a connection, but a there's a lot of destinations where you can get a one stop flight. Even a couple of two stoppers to New York/New Jersey, though those are the only ones I noticed at a glance. And there were also plenty of nonstops, of course.)

Can’t believe we don’t have an SFO nonstop back yet. The Southwest flight I just took to Oakland was packed. Perhaps with California reopened we’ll get one. SFO and LAX were definitely hit hard by the pandemic.

Southwest just took it completely out of the schedule beside a few dates around the holidays.

We will see if United’s September start holds.

EDIT: you made me check the September schedule. It’s updating this weekend and still no SFO. Maybe October….

United adding a couple mainlines our Denver flights though.

Also. A 747 should be coming to town tonight or tomorrow from ORD so that’s fun to see.

^I spent four hours around the airport today waiting for that silly thing to come in. The queen of the skies was a serious no-show. I gave up when the battery on my phone died from me checking it too often. If they reschedule it tomorrow I may try again, but . . . holy yowza.

Also, I finally got a Spirit flight photographed at Lambert and lo and behold, the darn thing wasn't yellow. What's up with that? Got a few decent shots, maybe. Will post tomorrow after I sort through them a little more. The Boeing Twin-Beech was kind of cute. Seems I just barely missed a few other interesting aircraft. Ah well. There will be more tomorrows.

I have a flight from Juneau via Seattle to STL and Alaska airlines is taking me to Dallas first….leave Junuea at 6:50pm tomorrow and get home at 9:00 am Saturday

I’ve been traversing Alaska this past week and these little guys were a very surprising smooth ride. Doubt we ever got above 2000 feet from Skagway to Haines, got Haines to Juneau tomorrow.

I got my butt sunburned yesterday waiting for it since we'd taken the sunscreen out of my glovebox and put it god knows where, but . . .

Long Live the Queen

Snagged a few pics today. :) I'll put the rest of the last couple of days of planespotting in the usual location, but man, it was fun seeing her fill up 12R. I miss riding those birds.

Also, I'm jealous of your access to the cooler side of the fence. ;-)
