Well, the "official" smoking area might be somewhere else but at the airports I've been to even in non-assbackward places the smokers all scatter right around the entrances. They WILL however be going back and forth through security. Atlanta, Denver, DC Dulles (shocked by this one), and Dallas allow smoking in designated smoking areas. Not ass-backward places.

Slay says he wants to change the "image". Nonsense. This is something that is simply very EASY to do (but not cheap!) that might draw a long slow clap from an audience. TOTAL waste of money. No "image" will be changed from this at all ever. I hate the whole concept of "image" anyway. Usually it's just an inferiority complex by whomever wants their "image" changed. Stupid.

Skyclub?

“This partnership demonstrates Delta’s ongoing commitment to St. Louis as we continue to invest in the market with new service and enhanced facilities for our customers,” said Hank Halter, Delta’s senior vice president and chief financial officer, in a statement.

I think Delta's signing of sponsorship of the STL Rams is a big deal. It truly shows they want their presence seen in the city and it also shows (as Deltas rep ut it) committment to STL and Lambert International. I wouldn't be surprised to see Delta expand even more greatly in the market in 2011 and I wouldn't see why Lambert wouldn't move some of the other airlines out of Concourse A to other concourses to allow Delta expansion in A.

Had to chuckle, got off my Southwest flight this afternoon and decided to use one of their charging stations for a good hour, saved a side trip to the office and the fact that I didn't bring work home. Delta figuring out what Southwest has been providing at a lot of airports for a while. Maybe they will throw in some comfy chairs also!

Yep, confirmed SkyClub next year. And there will also be some movement around the concourses, but nothing specific has been planned or negotiated yet.

I fly 2-3x per month and have always found the shoeshine guys to have fairly accurate gossip. On Xmas Eve, word was that Delta would be overtaking the entire A-concourse, with the remaining airlines relocating to C...

That would be wonderful. I'd love to fly out of C on UA. The security to the A gates is a disaster.

Another interesting move by Delta for STL.

On February 17th, Delta will add mainline large jet service from / to STL from Memphis (not just small jets). This will be IN ADDITION to the smaller jets - so more service to Memphis. This then being that Delta will fly large planes to all of their hubs from STL. Very interesting! I just can't imagine there is enough traffic from Memphis to warrant additional flights on larger aircraft to STL (or vice versa). Looks like Delta IS working in a "connection type" hub here in STL in some form in 2011. Wait and see.

Delta testing the waters on a Connection Type hub would be an interesting. However, wouldn't they need some additional service to cities that are not hubs? If so, might be some better news in the future.

Also, it should be interesting to see Delta and Southwest go head to head now that Southwest will finally have significance presence in Atlanta. I wonder if going to full size jets is in any small way, I mean small way, is part of that of that equation.

I saw this guy fly by downtown yesterday afternoon:

Not very often you see a B74 with a trailing military aircraft coming into STL, especially with NASA logos ferrying a drone fighter. I saw in the paper this morning they were doing a test ferry flight to move the prototype UAS to Edwards AFB.

Not sure if anyone has seen this or posted this before. It's from last year. Hopefully the person who made it can make a new one when Delta and Southwest add more flights, and when the China Hub gets going.

The drone was built by Boeing in St. Louis, right?

According to the post dispatch article, the drone was built here in St Louis. I'm not sure how that would work out though for future operations, would they all have to be ferried? I don't think they could fit in a transport plane. A UAS cannot take off or operate outside of restricted military airspace.

There is no frequency upgrade STL-MEM, just changing 1 flight from Delta Connection to mainline Delta service.

American still has more capacity out of STL than Delta does.

Vote for Lambert!
Below, we have highlighted these and other less-appealing airports that readers already identified in the "most beautiful" story.

^Go to hel...er, LaGuardia, bprop...lol

Yes, I will contest every list THAT DOESNT MAKE SENSE...

The concourses at Lambert are dated but are getting a face lift, the baggage claim area is dark and dated but is also getting a renovation...

And the Terminal One IS NOT ugly at all and in fact was revolutionary when it opened and Terminal 2 is more than acceptable...

More irreligious bias by a secular press! ARGH!! One day St. Louis and that mighty warhorse he's riding are going to come to life, ride away from the Art Museum and put the fear of God in all of these reporters minds whilst delivering crime statistics from south Chicago neighborhoods....

PostDec 21, 2010#1219

In reality...these lists (crime, health, airports) are actually great opportunities and should in fact help St. Louis by spurring awareness and improvement...

And we get to sleep well at night knowing we have not misled hundreds of millions of people using uneven and self-serving data...

This is the best quote I've ever read.

I think I'll alter it a tad and make it my signature.

It's a Boeing Phantom Ray that was ferried to Edwards Air Force Base for testing: http://www.popsci.com/science/article/2 ... arrier-747

just flew in to Lambert today and had a few minutes to kill before my parents picked me up. took the opportunity to walk down the C concourse to see how the place is doing. it was surprisingly busy until you got past C-24, but aside from that, there seems to be a bit of construction going on. The first set of flat moving sidewalks is all torn up like they're either being refurbished or taken out. It also looks like they're constructing a wall in the C-27/C-29 area. Anyone have any idea what this is about? I hope they're not simply closing down more of the C Concourse...

I also thought I saw the Phantom Ray take off on the 747, but it was too dark for me to tell for sure. Was that supposed to fly over to California today?
