^Okay, that looks fun.
Also, I haven't had decent Italian since this dang pandemic began. Maybe I need to make myself a bowl of non-Asian noodles. Or actually *gasp* go out and eat on the Hill. (You marry into SE Asia and you can forget that there are other noddle traditions.) If they'll let this stupid Slovak kid into the neighborhood I'll go get myself a bowl of pasta.

We're not really the last Little Italy though... or is Little Italy in Boston/NY/etc. in a steep decline?
^ Not in decline, just not really full of Italians anymore. Little Italy in NYC is basically their Chinatown now. Not sure about the North End in Boston anymore though.

^NYC Little Italy is a fraction of what it once was. Maybe 3 blocks of Mulberry today, and it feels like less than that...
Still, Amici II remains open, and that's a very good thing.

I rather still have a little Bosnia but that shifted to Deep South County
Don’t think you’ll find decent Italian on the hill either. Interesting thing about the documentary is it opens up about how Italians where discriminate when they got here.....which is ironic when you think about the Hill today

This may not have been obvious, but I meant American Italian. Local Italian. The Hill will do nicely for my purposes. Not planning to travel to Naples today.dbInSouthCity wrote: ↑Jun 19, 2020Don’t think you’ll find decent Italian on the hill either. Google Italians try American Italian food

It's a sad truth that most immigrants suffered discrimination when they first got here only to have their grandkids dole it out to the next batch of people to try to join the party. It doesn't quite always work out that way, but . . . all too often. My Slovak great grandparents and most all of their children suffered discrimination. At least some of their grandkids and great grandkids participate in it. (And great great and great great great at this point. I guess I'm really not the kid anymore, what with the 70s being a wee bit in the past now.)
And yes, I know local Italian is different. And in a few generations local Bosnian probably will be pretty unrecognizable to you and local Vietnamese to my wife.
But it will still be delicious, and it will be ours.
Let's just hope we can teach our kids and nephews and nieces to respect the next waves of new arrivals and to enjoy the delicious food and lovely culture they bring with them.
The Hill is great, but it’s hardly the “last” Little Italy in America. If I were from Baltimore or Cleveland or Pittsburgh I’d feel pretty snubbed by that title, not to mention NY/NJ, Philly and Boston, which all have multiple Italian-American enclaves within their metros.
Pittsburgh in particular stands out to me because it is similar in size to St. Louis, but its Italian heritage is very strong and noticeable.

Little Italy in Manhattan has become a Disneyland, but there many other genuine Italian enclaves in NYC, namely in South Brooklyn (Dyker Heights, Bensonhurst) and Staten Island.

^ POTUS has apparently tweeted out that video earlier today as well.
(Perhaps to distract from the ever-developing Russian Bounty Scandal...)
It's horrific to be pointing a gun at a crowd - and handling a weapon with no trigger or barrel discipline. Private street or not, I don't think they're immune from City and State laws against brandishing a firearm in public. They're attorneys in private practice, and they should've known better.

If it wasn’t for the president re tweeting a video of people shouting white power,CDC calling covid out of control, and the president knowing that Putin is paying Afghans to murder Americans all while he sucks Putin’s dick, we probably would have gotten more national tv time over this Rambo and Ms Rambo story

Taylor Swift’s surprise studio album “Folklore” includes a song “The Last Great American Dynasty” covering the life of St. Louisan Rebekah Harness. Swift ended up purchasing Harness “Holiday House” in Rhode Island. Always fun to hear Saint Louis in a song.
