At least he's got a tent...and I havn't seen him pnahandling or littering.
I think that would be a good "stunt" - get a lot of campers to have an urban campout on the Mall... show people how dangerous downtown really is... and we could ask this guy for some tips... since he knows the area.... kinda an extension of the annual camp out inside busch stadium...

So...... should this be brought to our Alderman's attention? Worse... will he do anything about it?
Ahem, refer to second to last post here: http://urbanstl.com/viewtopic.php?t=182 ... c&start=15
Breaking promises Eh Urban?
Well..... I looked at the definition at dictionary.com (told you I was a geek). Some of the definitions "may" apply to this case.

Meh. If you're camping in a tent beside an on-ramp, you're open season to be called a bum.
heh, nice. i was just teasing, of course.Urban Elitist wrote:Meh. If you're camping in a tent beside an on-ramp, you're open season to be called a bum.
what4 wrote:has anyone seen the latest homeless campground? there's a bum that erects a tent every night on the grassy area bounded by the pine street on/off ramps to 40... right in the middle for everyone to see. good thing there's no adverse possession of government property...
Ok so I'm getting onto 40 this morning around 8 am and this guy is urinating beside his tent

Haha, I saw him pitching his tent on the way home today.

No.... I did NOT just read that.
How is only one person doing this? I would have thought more and more homeless would find this appealing. Maybe not. As i said earlier, I am torn between the impression this gives of our city and the human survival of some less fortunates.
Homeless people cannot be "uprooted" from their tents, even though they are tresspassing. Here is a link.

Not true. The judge merely issued an injunction until the case is settled.
U R correct. I should have read the entire post.
I hope common sense on "which" law was actually broken prevails.

We all know that the homeless get "dumped" downtown. Here's a Northwoods cop caught in the act. I wish there where a way to hold them accountable!!

Sure there is: $100,000 a pop against any muni caught doing this cr@p. Pluse the offending officer gets thrown in Jail untill the fine is paid. I say make it hurt.
I have been very critical of the homeless situation in Downtown St. Louis. We have people sleeping in the Gateway Mall, on the steps of the Kiel Opera House, and in Lucas Park behind the Library.
Mayor Slay often speaks of various St. Louis County municipalities sending their homeless Downtown. Well I always thought this was simply a load of BS. How can a homeless guy get Downtown when they often cannot even afford a Metrobus Pass?
Well last night Michael, Clarie, and I found out how:
At around 11:00 p.m. tonight, at the corner of 14th and Locust, I saw my first "dumping" of a homeless person. A Northwoods police cruiser pulled up to the corner and deposited a homeless man at Lucas Park (not even NLEC).

I wish we had a camera! The cop sped off rather fast and the Buick is not equipped with police modifications. If the City would like I would be willing to let them upgrade my engine, suspension, and transmission. Hire me on and next time I will get the plates.
Wow. If true, this is a GROSS injustice to all tax payers for the city. We want the city to be a place of grace and beauty, not the dumping ground of everyone else's problems.
The homeless issue is sad, but gets aggravated by a lot of them congregating in the center of the city. Bad for everyone.

Hell, how bout we shuttle them all back to Northwoods. You got served!bsharmastl wrote:Wow. If true, this is a GROSS injustice to all tax payers for the city. We want the city to be a place of grace and beauty, not the dumping ground of everyone else's problems.

What a filthy thing for the Northwoods police to do. Of all of the places to dump a hobo, they chose to dump him in our best neighborhood.loftlover wrote:We all know that the homeless get "dumped" downtown. Here's a Northwoods cop caught in the act. See, as I told you last week, you do need the Bluesmobile. After all, "it's got a cop motor, a 440 cubic inch plant, it's got cop tires, cop suspensions, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas."
Of course, you'll have to fix the cigarette lighter.
Seriously, the dumping of homeless into downtown is an outrage. The city already bears a disproportionate amount of the area's social service burden, and this is before (who knows how many) homeless people are trucked in from the 'burbs. Maybe this is a rare occurence, but I cannot help but wonder...
It wasn't that long ago that I saw a story about police departments from various Los Angeles County municipalities dumping their homeless people into "Skid Row" (yes, they really call it that) in downtown Los Angeles. At any time, there may be hundreds of homeless people (literally) in the streets of that particular area. I always wondered if suburban cops did that here, and now it sounds like that's not so far-fetched after all.
Since KMOV is already familiar with the area, there's a story for sweeps week in February or May.

314's comment got me thinkin' - this would be a great story for the press to make an issue of. Any members have contacts with local media that may be interested in pursuing? This is too bizarre to let die!

I took a walk through Hobo Heaven today. It clearly states a closing time of 10:00 p.m.--so that means that the Northwoods police dumper was assisting the dumpee in illegal trespass.Doug wrote:At around 11:00 p.m. tonight, at the corner of 14th and Locust, I saw my first "dumping" of a homeless person. We could lure them inside this trailer, and then we'll abandon the trailer in front of the Northwoods police station.innov8ion wrote:Hell, how bout we shuttle them all back to Northwoods. You got served!

Is it a guaranteed fact that Rice is the reason for these homeless being dumped DT, or if this is a pattern in all big cities (people from all over dumped DT) due to their social support structure.
Just curious if Rice is the one who gains from all this, and if somehow he has given people an open invitation to drop homeless near his place.

It was a big ***** disgrace. I really sh*t a brick when I saw it happen. Perhaps a regional consensus would create better results. Clearly St. Louis County is too fragmented to agree with the Plan.
