It's nothing new. Without going into graphic detail, a friend told me they saw two have sex in the park the other morning. We've got an emerging little red light district down at ole Larry's Place.

In Soulard Park, you can catch 'em having sex fairly frequently if you go looking.

Sorry I read this during lunch.

Since the homeless are allowed to live on public land shouldn't they be allowed to have sex on said public land?

I think we need to stop talking about the homeless having sex. It might come back to haunt us if anyone of us ever runs for office. Dibs on a cabinet position.

Today I walked past that outdoor dining area that Lucas Park Grill put up on the west side of the Rudman building. Sure enough (as I thought would happen when they built it), beneath the deck next to the building, were the belongings of several homeless people. It really looks bad for the restaurant.

The owners ought to put a grille around the deck to keep the bums from crawling under there. What irony to know that when you're eating an expensive meal on the deck, several homeless people are huddled together just beneath you.

Solution: They leave their stuff on your property, you have every right to pick it up and throw it away. That's what I would do. It would be in the dumpster within 5 minutes.

Depending in which dumpster, you might just be giving it back to them!

I might be wrong but I believe those parks downtown have postings of no loitering after a certain time, and its not enforced. The laws are there but as usual the police wont enforce because I'm sure the suspects are released as soon as the next morning.

Do we know if anyone is reporting it? We know the police know it goes on, but I suspect they leave well enough alone if no one complains. If I owned that restaurant, I would be on the phone every night with the police, and with the mayor the following day.

Honestly I am pretty liberal but the homeless cannot be allowed to live on the streets. This interferes with traffic, both pedestrian and automobile. Buddy and I, while driving downtown and in the west end, where approached and asked for money. When we refuse they threaten us or use profane words. These people need to be put into community rehabilitation/job training program and affordable housing. They cannot live on the streets.

I am not liberal and I agree.

My biggest peeve is the smell. Here in New York, certain subway platforms have a very particular smell which come from the homeless dwellers. And every now and then you walk into a subway car and it reeks--subway cars are often used for nap taking. It's disgusting. I wish we could just gather them up and take them somewhere far, far away.

And then the other day, I felt guilty thinking that because of a program on NPR that was talking about how many of the homeless are army veterans from Vietnam. Seems wrong in a way.

It's much easier for me when I associate their homelessness with drug problems and laziness. Much harder to think they got really $(!)*(! in Vietnam and just couldn't adjust to regular life again. Hard not to blame the Armed Forces for not taking care of their own-or even us for not demanding it.

I still don't want them in my back yard, but I feel a little guilty saying that. At least with regards to the Vets and the mentally ill. But we have to do something.

We need to build a farm where people without homes can go. Or a summer camp by a lake.

The truth of the matter is that there is no such thing as an easy solution.

I'm glad you pointed this out. One of the biggest problems with resolving homelessness is that so many people who've been indoctrined with the Horatio Alger myth automatically assume this about homeless people. I'm not trying to absolve those who genuinely are lazy, but in a lot of cases it's simply not that simple. Society needs to recognize that it is partly responsible for the homeless.

has anyone seen the latest homeless campground? there's a bum that erects a tent every night on the grassy area bounded by the pine street on/off ramps to 40... right in the middle for everyone to see. good thing there's no adverse possession of government property...

I saw that on the way to the tailgating early morn on Sun. Are you serious this is a homeless man? I thought it was someone's idea of a joke or some ad stunt.

I find it hard to believe this is not some publicity stunt. The city cops may not be able to cover a lot of stuff, but this is so blatant......

Saw it during the world series. Thought it was just someone throwing down for the night.

This is the classic problem of being conflicted (at least for me) to see someone create a temp "cover" for themselves durnig the night and keeping themselves warm, and the eyesore this becomes to everyone else. I would hate to ask the city to take care of this, cause in essence I am asking them to tell that homeless guy to sleep in the open.

So..... what is the solution? Have Rice put him up in the Church? Personally, I would like to see this person go to some shelter or something, but I cannot imagnie what it would be like.

reminds me of this bum in boston that literally built a log cabin in the grassy area enclosed by the "clover-leaf" style ramp to a highway. in the summer, you couldn't see him through the dense thicket, but in the winter when all of the leaves fell, you could see he had quite the "home" built in there. not sure why the police never gave him the boot, but it was almost comical. here i was paying an arm and leg for a dumpy apt. in boston while this guy was "living" it up for free. :?

Under most circumstances I feel if you break the law, you should go to jail (assuming you were caught :))

Tresspassing on government property to put a temp shelter, I am really at a loss as how we (society) and the goverment should deal with it. If we do not do anything, we may see more of these tents spring up near the highways and I don't think anyone wants that.

Side note...... Where does this guy go for his morning routines? I hope he does not find a convenient bush,......... as opposed to the Bush that everyone crapped on this election

Drove by early morn. The tent was not there. Has anyone noticed him there recently? Is he not camping out every day?

I'm not going to waste my time, that bum hasn't done anything to me. Just camping.
