^ It looks like the potential Ascenision buy may not be as large of a company as earlier speculated as the company reported it was not a "material" acquisition. But they are welcome downtown anytime!

Also, Stifel is continuing to work it... it picked up a couple of London firms and just acquired a unit of Legg Mason that is based in Baltimore.

Reports are Con-Agra will be eliminating about 135 jobs in Saint Louis as part of company-wide cuts.

^^This is just another step in the process of eliminating the St. Louis office, IMO. I've talked to former employees, that are shocked there is still a STL office. I think long term, these jobs will be moved to Omaha. It was most likely, more cost effective, to keep the employees there, due to the lease, employees refusing to move..etc.. etc... I think now that many have been indoctrinated into the ConAgra way, maybe their more likely to move to Omaha, when that day comes. They have likely seen some people trickling out since the buy-out. In a nutshell, I do not expect this office to be here in the future.

Infuz, an ad agency located on Washington in the Curlee Building, has just been acquired by another firm located in the Tivoli Theater (of all places.) Too bad not the other way around as we need more creatives downtown than fewer, but at least everyone will be the Loop. I think it will be a loss of 30-50 jobs downtown.

Medtronic to buy Covidien for $42.9B
U.S. medical device manufacturer Medtronic announced Sunday night that it has agreed to buy Ireland-based competitor Covidien for $42.9 billion in cash and stock.

The combined company would have its executive offices in Dublin, where it could benefit from Ireland's lower corporate tax rates. But the merged company would continue to operate in Minneapolis, where Medtronic employs more than 8,000, the companies said in a statement.

How big is covidian in STL? How many do they employ and is it mainly back office?

I don't think Covidien has a significant presents in St. Louis, back office or otherwise. This shouldn't have a significant impact on employment here.

They used to own Mallickrodt (which was their pharmaceutical division), but spun it off about a year ago. They're incorporated in Dublin (like Covidien) but headquartered in Hazelwood.

^ RIght, I believe pretty much all of Covidien's substantial presence here was spun off into the new Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals stand-alone company so I doubt there will be much if any local impact from the deal. Hopefully the company grows and brings a larger presence to the city.

^ You could argue that the spin off turned out pretty good for St. Louis considering Geoff's nextstl post about Millinckrodt's $200 million planned expansion/modernization for its north riverfront facility.

Yurbuds sold to a Ct. firm but it to stay here at least for now:

Could be a good thing if this allows for more company growth and remains here. 40 employees at present.

The capital the owners receive will also be good. They can always use it to start another company. As long as they stay in STL.

On the positive side, you can look to one St. Louis based company that has done well recently being the big fish in the pond.

Pure speculation, but does anyone think that Acension is entertaining a corporate relocation to CWE/Cortex? Can't help but think of Kopeland (if I got the name right) teaming up with Koman and bringing in a high powered architect to design a signature building for a specific anchor tenant.

http://www.stltoday.com/business/local/ ... e0d54.html

Ascension, the parent company of the nation's largest nonprofit health care system, reported income from operations rose 34 percent to about $606 million for the year ended June 30, 2014.

Ascension officials say the significant increase in both income and revenue was thanks to the acquisition of Tulsa, Okla.-based Marian Health System in April 2013, which included 35 hospitals throughout Wisconsin, Minnesota, Oklahoma and Kansas.

^ Ascension is one of the companies that has zero visibility with their HQ location.... other sizeable ones that come to mind include Bunge NA & Sigma-Aldrich. Maybe they should all get together and build a shiny tower downtown.

I guess it's tough to have visibility when you're boxed in by The Parking Spot (structured parking), The Parking Spot 2 (covered parking), and The Parking Spot 3 (surface lot parking).

St. Louis is the world capital of coal but now we're home to the world's largest renewable energy development company.
SunEdison, betting the wind will carry it further than solar alone, will pay as much as $2.4 billion to buy Boston-based wind developer First Wind Holdings LLC.
