There are some very well done and interesting window displays along the Wash Ave side of the development. I didn't quite make out who is responsible for them, but they look pretty good...There is a lot of potential here (MX) to make a vibrant and meaningful urban oasis of shopping, entertainment, dining, arts...I do believe the number I read that 1% of a metro area want dense urban living...This number (28k residents downtown) could clearly support a fully developed MX (including the MX library), Bottle Dist, expanded Pinnacle/Lumiere (the pulse, baby, lol) and a scaled down BPV...And connect a refurbished Arch Grounds and downtown STL would be quite a little Midwestern gem...(And we're adding SEC football!!!! Means my Geo Dawgs are coming to town every 2 years)

OT

that's right! One brother's a UGA grad, the other Mizzou. Good times ahead!

And hey, at least one institution affiliated with the state of Missouri was able to make a smart, forward-looking move! Thought we'd screw the pooch on this one too.

^I really think Mizzou will step up to the challenge and move itself into the middle of the SEC pack in terms of facilities and overall athletic dept competitiveness...Being able to leverage SEC TV and competition should be a game changer for recruiting across the board but especially in football...It should become harder for Neb or Iowa or Texas to lure local/state kids away from the Zou...especially if Coach Pinkle is able to compete right away (I believe he's 9-2 historically against SEC competition)...

Correct, stated as such in the article as they are supposedly hammering out the details on the extra space.

Another statement made in the article was the fact that 600 Washington was also in lease discussions with other parties on half of their remaining space. No other details nor do I have any guesses other then Nestle was supposedly looking for space in a previous BJ article last year - believe the article was discussing downtown office space and they were the only company specifically named in the article. Could easily be wrong

Where was it stated that 1% of the Metro region wants downtown living? They did this type of calculation in the 1999 Downtown Plan, however I don't think those numbers are reliable anymore.

Congestion pricing wouldn't work in Saint Louis because we have no congestion. People think it exists but it doesn't. Politically people have to see there is a reason to effectively "tax" themselves. If Bloomberg can't do it then I doubt Slay and Dooley could. It also has to be tied with immediate improvements in transit. I don't think we have the density to make that happen while employment regionally is quite decentralized.

The City has to lead on these issues. Once people regionally see the improvements downtown they will understand how urbanism functions. If they can identify with it they will support it. Right now we are only building garages so of course people will scoff at transit. They don't have any real experience with it.

^ area chains seem to make good sense for this location considering the comings and going of convention business. Need a few employees to handle rush, pull them from your other location and send them back when no conventions.

Are there any rumored retail in talks with this development? Visitors need better shopping options downtown..well more I mean.

^ Haven't heard anything specific, but the developer is certainly searching for retail - seems it's still a struggle to convince larger retailers to locate downtown.

Local Retail Co-op to open in MX this fall.

http://www.stltoday.com/business/column ... 0f31a.html

Will have a selection of goods from local retailers using the "store within the store" format. Three retailers signed with 15 more in talks to sign. All listed so far currently are in the suburbs (Clayton, etc). Wide variety of stores and goods.

Should be a really cool store! Very excited to have this coming.

This development has all the ingredients to be a success. I wonder who is going to fill up the two remaining spaces? More retail? Restaurants?

Does this leave just one more available retail space in MX along Washington? If so, that's pretty good work getting it leased up. Hopefully they find someone for the final space and can start justifying marketing the 6th & 7th Street storefronts.

Great to see the MX coming together, filling up, etc. They've done an exceptional job of skinning the building and creating a new, inviting space inside and out. I can't help but think though that, as popular as it may become, it could have been this PLUS downtown apartments and/or condos and/or office space on the upper floors. Instead it's "yet another parking garage."

I still put this redevelopment in the 'Win' column, but the victory's still a little hollow...

not to be a downer, but can someone explain to me how this isn't a downtown mall? stores, restaurants, movie theater...the residences were removed from the plan, right? in that case, what makes this different than our grand plan in the 80's when it was originally built?
