Perhaps a new poll is in the works: Which of the three firms do you think will be selected? I wish Pyramid would announce the firm.

It is going to the Lawrence Group. Just hasn't been announced yet. I don't have any proof in writing . . . this is all word of mouth. But I am 99% positive this project will be using their design. Not sure when the announcement is supposed to come out.

So will Gold's remain open for a least a little while? Kind of left it open via the business article. I paid for a years membership running through like Feb. so I'm kind of interested in what they'll say.

yeah that Gold's is shady. I asked them about this when I joined. I specifically said - what happens if the mall closes for redevelopment. They swore to me that it wasn't goign to happen ... at least they swore until they realized that I knew damn well that it was.

does anyone know what plan they deceided upon ?????

I have a few friends within the Lawrence Group that have told me that they have already been chosen as the group for the design. That's all I can say. Can't name names, sorry.

^ Sounds good if it's true. I liked some elements of all three designs, but the one submitted by Lawrence is my favorite.

Hopefully when Macy's unveils their remodel of the downtown Famous-Barr next Friday, they will have sealed off the entrances to the store from STL Centre. Now that the store is in better shape than it's been in years, I'd hate to see people wander into the Centre now.

I'll have to take a stroll through there next week, to say goodbye and good riddance! I'll be even more excited when those skybridges come down, particularly the one that blocks the great vistas along Washington Avenue.

Don't forget the Washington Ave bridge will be coming down too! I'd say early 2006 before the NCAA's.

I just finished the book: The Social Life of Small Urban Spaces which is about what it says. The book came out in 1980 about the time of the downtown mall in St. Louis opened. Even the book talked about indoor public spaces and about malls. When our mall opened this book said from the beginning that it would not work and the mall did fail!

Gosh, what kind of research are we ignoring in the present times?

The fact that the Centre is being reused as living and first floor retail is a wonderful joy along with the design expertise of the progressive and notable Lawrence Group which is an Urban Land Institute member.

Interesting. About 1982, I took an economic geography class at UMKC. Part of the course was learning the models and formulas for assessing market demand and supply for urban retail. The prof. and the text said that in most major markets in the U.S., the demand for new malls had peaked.

^ Amid little- make that zero- fanfare, St. Louis Centre officially closed its doors at 5 p.m. last night to make way for Pyramid's transformation of the mall into 600 Washington according to a report on (KTVI) Fox 2 News.

What did you expect? It effectively closed years ago.

I thought the most interesting piece on Fox was that the bridge would be down by February. This has been suggested before, but it's good to hear it again. :D

Sorry.

Given the naive Post (and other media) bashing that goes on around here, I thought you were making some commentary that this should have been a front page story.

But re-reading, it I can see it was facetious.

^ No apology necessary- that happens all the time on the Internet.

Expect news coverage in February- hopefully the skybridges will actually come down then.
