There was a nice piece on Channel 4 about St. Louis Centre/The MX:

I saw this rendering of St. Louis Centre on the Suttle Mindlin website while looking for new renderings of the new Collinsville stadium.

Not sure if it's just a concept... I haven't seen it before.

Sorry if already shared.

I like that one better also. It looks more nightlife-ish ( I know that's not a word) with the neon lights.

Wow. This is the first rendering I have seen for St.Louis that I actually approve. It looks surprisingly cool. The only other building rendering I kinda liked was Lumiere PLace, and im my opinion that building ended up being a disappointment aesthetically. Hopefully this isn't just a rendering to be a rendering, and actually has some weight to it.

I'm impressed. What're those things that allow light to pass through? Are those windows? Gosh, and you can see through them? And they can have lights so you can see in at night?

WOW.

Few more of those and we'll have a streetscape worth walking around for.

If it ever gets built...

Has anyone heard anything about this development? I can't imagine things moving forward anytime soon since the tightening of credit is affecting similar major developments, and since The Laurel looks like it's going to be dormant for the foreseeable future.

Spinnaker has been awfully quiet, and while I don't think they can be blamed for the project stalling given current economic conditions, it really makes me wish this project was in capable hands in the first place instead of Pyramid, which clearly bit off more than it could chew.

I really hope Spinnaker, or another developer, can pick up where they left off once the economy improves and complete Mercantile Exchange. Lumiere Place is a great addition to the riverfront, and Ballpark Village and The Bottle District could do wonders for downtown, but I maintain that no big-ticket project is as important as this one. It's the best chance to restore large-scale, mixed-use activity to the city's traditional retail core that was besieged by failed ideas (St. Louis Centre) and senseless demolitions. Maybe something bigger and better can still come out of this, because I always thought at least part of the former Dillard's/Stix Baer & Fuller space would lend itself well to a Borders or a Target.

I just hate that these properties will continue to deteriorate for some time now, banners and all, when the nation's attention turns to St. Louis for next year's All-Star Game. I think we're going to have to do what we did for the NCAA Final Four, and what Detroit did for the Super Bowl, and tidy up these vacant buildings.

We have mastered this. It is called the art of banner hanging. Why spend millions rehabbing a vacant building when you can spend 100's printing out a giant banner?

Not to nit pic...but some of those banners are in the $1000s if not $10000s.

If this is the case, I must've missed the announcement as well. And if it's true, what an effing waste.

I'd love to believe City Hall would fight a mere parking garage on this site tooth and nail, but I've never known of any of our city leaders to say no to anyone proposing more parking in downtown, so I wouldn't hold out much hope.

I am hearing that is the plan. Although this garage might be taking the place of the garage that Thompson Coburn was going to build. If that is the case then I don't have a problem with it.

Retail will also be on the first floor of the project so at least there will be some life at street level.

Also The Laurel is going on as planned.

If Dillard's is saved, I think another parking garage is tolerable, not necessarily welcome, but tolerable anyway.

That was my first thought. Any confirmation?

I still don't like it, though. What a waste.

Are we talking about the STL centre site? like tearing down the mall for this? I'm not sure where the Thompson Coburn garage was planned to be built.

The other garage would be built just south of the US bank tower where the plaza is now..

Do we have this confirmed yet?

I thought The Laurel (Stix, Baer & Fuller/Dillard's) was supposed to have at least some parking within the structure for residents and guests of the proposed Embassy Suites, and I thought there was a proposal for a parking garage on the site of US Bank Plaza where the Ambassador Theater used to stand.

Oh, and then there's the garage just north of U.S. Bank, the America's Center garage which once served SB&F and Dillard's before Cervantes Convention Center was expanded, and the St. Louis Centre garage at Sixth and Locust streets. Go one block east and there's the Marquette Garage, the Century and Renaissance garages are just a block or two west, and go just south of Macy's and there are even more garages.

How many more &$#@ing parking garages do we really need downtown?

And I can't get excited about first floor retail space until we figure out what's actually going into the space, especially with so many vacant storefronts downtown despite significant progress in the last decade. Should we also assume the Mercantile Exchange plans are dead? And if so, I wonder what that means for the long-term future of Macy's, and of downtown retail in general? The place has been mothballed for so long, we might as well sit on it a little longer or tear the blasted thing down for something more inspiring than another parking garage. The prospect of another parking garage here is quite frustrating, especially since it may limit the potential for bringing back this crucial part of downtown that's been dormant even as blocks to the south and west have come alive in recent years.

Another possible parking garage? We must have the highest rate of parking spaces per office space in the country by now. A new one is going up by the Eagleton as we speak. Just a few years ago the Old Post Office Garage, Laclede Gas, Renn Hotel, Marquette Building, and the garage next to St.Louis Place were built.

That's 6 garages in the past few years!

Is it sad that I would welcome anything (even a parking garage) on the US Bank plaza site, right now that area is worthless. However another garage does seem to be overkill.

US bank plaza parking garage

9th street garage

Tucker and Clark garage

Proposed park pacific garage

How bout' some class A office space construction for a change.
