I was thinking $100 seating in a roped off viewing area. For some real bucks, however, I bet Pyramid could sell sponsorships for seating under the bridge for certain officials of the mayoral administration that gave us St. Louis Centre and the Gateway Mall. 8)

It's nice having the Library at UMSL, yet I would rather have it Downtown. This goes for the Kiel Opera House as well. Touhill is about the ugliest building, and if Kiel ever opens, will create competition which I am not sure we can support. Who knows though as 2.5 million regionally is a large market.

I walked by the Centre on my lunch break today, and the bridge demo could not come quickly enough - they absolutely ruin and completely disrupt the streetscape. If anything, just the symbolic nature of the skybridge demo - proof that we're correcting one of downtown's biggest mistakes and moving forward with something better - should have a nice psychological impact, helping to positively affect the public's perception of downtown.

An aside: walking by both sides of the U.S. Bank Building made it clear to me how senseless the demolition of the Ambassador Building was. If Mercantile/Firstar/U.S. Bank really needed a driveway that badly, they could have easily built a circle drive on the Washington Avenue side.

Don't even bring that up. I was too young to visit that beautiful building. Along with the Opera House, it's really unfair.

Anyway, all of the bars on Washington Avenue should have an extended happy hour in celebration of its demolition.

It's perhaps the most senseless demolition in recent history, not that there's a lack of senseless demolitions (Century, Title Guaranty, Buder, etc.) in downtown.

I was busy drinking toward a bachelors degree down in Limbaughville back when the Ambassador was lost. I know downtown was rather moribund in those days, but I remember walking out of Famous-Barr, looking at the demolition in progress, and wondering how in the hell the community could stand back while that beautiful building vanished!

The Century experience taught us that activism is good, but not always powerful enough to overcome backroom deals and machinations. Hopefully we're past the point where another significant downtown landmark will be sacrificed for a parking garage, or worse yet, an unattractive concrete plaza used only by pigeons.

Down with the skywalk already.

That thing really is an eyesore... and can someone tell the new owners to take the "mall" signs down already. :?

So am I right to think that no one has any more specific information about when the Skybridge is coming down? Pryamid folks -- any guidance you can offer?

(Moderators: Any way we couold move this discussion to its own thread? Recognizing that people have talked about it here, it really is a distinct issue -- I think most people would agree on that. Many thanks.)

Well, with the Midwest Regionals coming to StL and a mob of college and media people in town...i say bring em on!

I agree with matguy70. We need to take down the "mall" signs, MINIMUM! I would hate to have all those people come into town and try to open the doors of the mall only to notice that they are locked. You are going to have people all over Washington Ave. and the building still sits there as a "mall".

PYRAMID, PLEAST TAKE DOWN ANY AND ALL SIGNS THAT ADVERTISE THE BUILDING AS A "MALL".

I urge others to send emails to Pyramid and ask them to take down any/all mall advertising on the exterior of the building.

I hope we get the following teams for the st. louis regional:

Florida

Wisconsin

Maryland

Notre Dame

Has anyone heard any news on this thing ?

Admittedly, I'm not the most observant person on the planet, but I have seen ZERO in the way of progress on this building.

I also noticed that the website: www.buildingexcitement.com

hasn't been updated for probably 6 months.

Not what I call "excitement."

Maybe we should all band together and dismantle the sky bridge ourselves. WHO'S COMING WITH ME ??

Maybe the same 'approach' they used on the Century would work. It'd be something: "Oh we were just setting up and somehow the wrecking ball struck the skybridge. But now that it's unsafe we better go ahead and knock the whole thing down." ;)

That's brilliant. All we really need to do is peel back a couple roof panels and wait 10 years!

Let's just start bombarding Pyramid with emails. Asking if they need any help tearing it done. They'll have to respond to somebody. Right?

Maybe they can do some adaptive reuse of the green skin on the Pinnacle building. 8)
