Shucks, that does stink... Hopefully they can find a buyer for their equipment.

Excited to hear this, last I heard (about 3-4 weeks ago) they still haven't closed on the lease/purchase of the building and that it was all contingent on a liquor license, rezoning, neighborhood approval, etc.

I am guessing they received some positive news then, very nice!

That's awesome - what a cool spot, and I'm sure it way closer to way more of their clientele

Great news for Botanical Heights, hopefully this is just the beginning of more redevelopment along Folsum including the UIC conversion of the tobacco warehouse. However I hate that the north county exodus is continuing.

Biz Journal about new Schlafly leadership but more interesting is this quote

“Yet other numbers show a steep decline in production. Schlafly produced just 30,000 barrels in 2018, about half of what it produced in 2016 when it had $20 million in revenue, according to Business Journal research”

Regarding Narrow Gauge, it was recently in the RFT and reading this good piece you'd think the rumors are b.s. - they are firmly ensconced in Florissant - until you get to the final paragraph.

^Nice article, and it sounds like a neat operation. Once I get done sampling American Pale Ales in England . . . (And every other beer the middle of England has to offer.)

Via social media it looks like the Narrow Gauge location in McRee Town didn't work out... lack of signatures/community support it appears.

Boo - they should try again in my opinion.  That would be an ideal location.

Hopefully they will find another good spot somewhere in the city.

In more positive news, the brewery in Webster seems to be progressing.  Lots of work is being done on the building and the other day the street was closed so that new pipes could be installed.

Is this the location that Modern Brewery was looking at, if so is it still them looking to occupy the space?

It is not Modern any longer.  There is another (well known local) brewery that will be taking up the space.  From my understanding, this will be a second location, not an outright move.

That's what I've heard as well.  Originally Modern, now another brewery.

Any reason everyone is being so cagey? Is this a secret for some reason?

Is Side Project still moving into Rolling Ridge?

Apparently they just did a write up on it on the Webster-Kirkwood Times, and I just googled it... and its already on Bizjournals

https://www.bizjournals.com/stlouis/new ... for-a.html

Come 2019, Rolling Ridge Nursery will not only feature plants but a microbrewery from Side Project Brewing, restaurant, coffee shop, retail shops and loft-style office space spanning 26,000 square feet. A multifamily project abutting the nature reserve at the end of the property also is in the works.

^That story is from a year ago. I haven't heard anything about it since maybe April of this year and it seems like they should be getting close to opening.

There doesn't appear to be any work going on at Rolling Ridge right now.  I was there a few days ago to do some shopping.

Schlafly buys Trailhead -

https://www.kmov.com/news/schlafly-beer ... a3e22.html
Don't know anything about Trailhead.

Really odd timing to me, would have thought they would be hell bent on expanding their downtown facilities. With their history in the city that's a tailor made opportunity for them to capitalize on. Maybe they have incorporated that as well.

Really looking forward to the day when city institutions stop setting up shop West.

I don't think it's fair to paint this as a "heading west vs. investing downtown" issue.  Main Street St. Charles is not the same as even an expansion in Streets of St. Charles.  It's a fantastic walkable, urban, historic district that draws hundreds of thousands of visitors each year.  If anything, I'm glad that Schlafly purchased Trailhead and will invest in renovations and improvements.  When we visited a few months ago, the place was dated and simple things like the carpet and lighting were very worn out.

^Chaifetz, what was the beer like when you went? I haven't been there in a long time but it never seemed like they were progressing to keep up with beer trends.

Quality at Trailhead has been going down for awhile now. It needed to be bought and and changed. Most people I know that are out that way are excited someone else is coming in.

I also don't have an issue with places setting up shop out west. It is good they can expand. As long as they keep their city locations then adding another location is great. If I do head out west to meet a friend at least I have a place like Schlafly I can go now.

Agree that either the quality has been going down or maybe its just being compared to a much high level of beer now.  I don't necessarily think a brewery needs to chase every trend (sour beer ugh) but i think they need to have a reliably good product.  Schlafly isn't as innovative/experimental as other breweries, but Pale Ale is still one of my go to beers.

I do wish they kept the Trailhead name though.  Its a very old local craft brewery and the name still has a certain comfortable feel to it.  Bankside seems a little forced, but maybe it will grow on me.
