Quick one handed Hail Mary grabs, but . . .

Went back today and did a slightly better job of shooting the crane porn . . .

Now, is that not a climbing module on the crane? It does seem a little short right now.

^ That indeed is a climber on the crane.

The crane's really tall. I guess this building will make a bigger impact than I thought.

^ Definitely, from the look of the renderings it will be similar in height to the old hospital. It will surely change the skyline of the South Grand corridor.

Hmmmm, I'd say 2/3rds to the height of the old hospital, max.
I know there have been several different iterations of Renderings but the height only varies between 1/2 to 2/3 the height of Desloge tower.

It would seem to me that this is a horrible use of land. Why not build upwards instead and conserve space? Ah, that's right, because SLU has to fight no one.

SLU is the guy that sits all spread-eagle on the subway.

 Or the guy who is working out on 3 pieces of equipment at the gym. "I'm on that!"

All it takes is for someone to call these people out. "No you weren't. You haven't been over here for 15 minutes. Now, if you want this piece of equipment then I'm going to go take that other one you're done with by coming over here."

The city could have easily done the same thing. "Hey SLU, we get you want to own EVERYTHING, but we're not going to approve demolition of buildings for more green space until you actually demonstrate an actual need and plans." But nope, the city just folds and gives in immediately.

The SLU hospital contruction started to tear up some of the ground on the south side of Chouteau Ave. Not 100% sure why they would do that as they have all of their fill piles on the west side and its also oddly being dug in a rectangle... :?:

The 1st crane is really prominent when traveling east on 64/40. Becomes quite 'towering' as you pass Hampton. It will be nice when another crane rises over the 100 site. I'd like to see a few more in the Cortex district soon.

The new SLU Hospital complex is going to be much bigger than I thought. It really towers over the surrounding streets even though it is a fair distance from the road and isn't a crazy number of stories. This will be a great addition to the neighborhood. I wish SLU would do something about some of those empty lots near the development off of Compton. Are they going to develop them eventually?

Does anyone know if the old Desloge building is surviving all this expansion? I really hope it does as I find it one of the coolest buildings in St Louis (especially at night, the lighting and neogothic architecture makes it look really spooky from I64!)

^Yes, it will eventually be used for offices from what I've heard. Hopefully, their long term (way down the road) plan is to keep it forever. I would hate to see it left to rot and torn down years down the road. We can all agree on it's iconic presence on South Grand and beyond.

Yeah - such a gigantic footprint not just the main tower on this one. If you haven't seen the digital fly through on youtube ->

I believe I saw a fir tree on top of the building, so I guess it's been topped-out.
