Well, I wasn't going to say anything, but...framer wrote:I'm thrilled that this is happening, but I can't share the enthusiasm over the renovation; this is still one butt-ugly building.

-I like that the building has been recalled to life and spruced up.
-The project is an improvement over the former.
-I like that 260,000 square feet of empty space is off the downtown office market.
-I am glad that nearly 1,200 new people will be downtown and all the benefits that come with their downtown presence.
The building's better and I am eager to see a nighttime light show, but the facade could have been better.
Once again, here's my Paint rush job. I hope they see it and take a cue.

Driving through Midtown the other day, it seemed they added blue lights to several more buildings. Is this correct, or am I mistaken?

A quick night-time shot with my phone from the south on Wednesday evening. Looking good.

I'm not sure they've added any new ones recently, at least from what I can tell. Did you notice them on any specific buildings that you don't recall seeing them on before?Gateway City wrote:Driving through Midtown the other day, it seemed they added blue lights to several more buildings. i was down at the GO! marathon and this building looked great

^^Me too. It definitely looks impressive in person. Speaking of Go! St. Louis, it was great to see downtown packed full of people. Hopefully the crowds were seeing the changes being made in the area and will help increase the overall traffic flow.
It's amazing to think what has happened in this pocket of downtown in the last couple years:
Peabody Opera House from vacant to renovated.
Central Library completely renovated.
Park Pacific completely renovated and full of residents.
SLU Law moving in.
And perhaps soon, Municipal Courts renovation.

Now only if we can bridge the gap with this area and Wash Ave by rehabbing the Jeff Arms and replacing the US Bank with mixed use bldg.

Amen to that! That might be the ugliest bank in the city, certainly downtown.downtown2007 wrote:Now only if we can bridge the gap with this area and Wash Ave by rehabbing the Jeff Arms and replacing the US Bank with mixed use bldg.

read more hereSLU to open ‘The Docket’ cafe downtown
The law school plans to open The Docket, a cafe and bistro, on the ground level of its renovated law building at 100 N. Tucker Blvd., officials said Tuesday. The 3,500-square-foot restaurant will seat 110 inside and 72 outside. SLU officials said The Docket will be operated by Palo Alto-based Bon Appetit Management Co., which operates more than 500 cafes nationwide.
The Docket will have pizzas, flat breads and earthenware casseroles, along with fresh-squeezed juices and signature drinks made with local spirits and craft brews.

Awesome that Tucker will have some ground floor action. SLU is doing a startlingly good (urban) job with the law school building.

Happy to see that their thought of closing Chestnut never made it off the drawing board!
This picture (courtesy of @MichaelCalhoun), which is a couple weeks old now, shows the building at night. Looks pretty neat.

I've gone on record before stating my disgust for the "SLU-blue neon" we're starting to see so much of. Looking at the campus in the evening, it doesn't look attractive at all (to my untrained eyes, anyway).
I've also gone on record as one of the few, the proud, the fans of the original look of the Tucker building. More than anything though, I'm just glad to see it put back into use (even if it is yet another nontaxable university property...) and they definitely did a good job on the redesign.
My only hope is that this building spurs additional Tucker Blvd. development and a much needed road diet/beautification along its length. The new downtown drop-off via the Mississippi River Bridge could be a game-changer for this stretch -- especially north of Washington -- is (and it's a big if) the City's planners make the decisions which would allow for it.

That blue needs a dimmer switch, but I'm impressed with that they've done.
