Matguy, who did you get your info from back in Dec when you said it wasnt cancelled?

Sometimes sources do not wish to be identified. I should have stated it that way instead of using 'rumor'. Unbunch panties now.

Maybe so, but if this development isn't going forward, I'd rather look at the building that was there instead of the NLEC's backside.

I liked that building and it was being used. Now we have a vacant lot. I am not always against demolition, I am against demolition for projects that aren't sufficiently well organized to follow through. New surface lots are not appropriate for downtown. Somebody get the defibrillator out for Skyhouse please please please.

I really do not hink this project has been cancelled. They really are not that far away from meeting their sales to start construction. Plus the sales office still appears to be open.
Well one thing is for sure... the news about Macy's doesn't help.
Honestly, I knew in my gut that it was too good to be true. Back to the Missouri motto: "Show Me." For the love of god, please prove me wrong.

I hear there are new plans to build the Bottle District in this location but they'll have to tear down some older, adjacent buildings first to amass the amount of necessary property.
No, I don't know anything. But it's just discouraging that everything moves so s l o w l y here. Other cities seem so much more assured of development, and in St. Louis it's always a big question mark until a crane shows up. It's amazing that the Park East Tower actually got built in this town. In Chicago, if a building is proposed, there's a crane the next f**king day. Here, it's hyped and marketed to no end, and after a year, we're scratching our heads wondering what's going on.
List of projects that are anything but "sure things" in my view:
--Bottle District
--Ballpark Village
--Chouteau's Landing
--Park Pacific (new tower)
--Lindell Tower
--St. Louis Centre redevelopment (let's face it, it's been a whole lotta nothin' so far)
--the proposed building at Washington & Tucker (fat chance)
--The Skyhouse
--The Trianon (maybe it's moving forward, but I'll believe it when I see a crane)
Lately we've been treading water here in STL. It seems it's always one step forward, two steps back. I hate to be a naysayer, but the momentum has definitely slowed as of late. Who can deny it?

It is frustrating that things seem to move so slowly.
Although, part of it may also be the state of the economy and real estate. Developers don't want to develop if they're not going to make a certain amount of money on it.

Since we're engaging in wishful thinking, I'm pulling for a relocated NLEC (they do have places in outstate Missouri, after all) and a new use for that building.

You've summed up my thoughts exactly. Much like the country at large, we're entering some tough times, unfortunately.
There is no doubt that loosing Macy's is a step back, though hopefully it will be balanced out by the addition of Centene. The key though is to at least tread water (and here or there take a step forward). If downtown can keep its momentum through the downturn it can take better advantage of the next upswing. Downtown failed to do either in the late 1980's and early 1990's and lost much of what it gained in the mid 1980's. This is why I feel the Ballpark Village is such a key project for downtown. If it would only get started, it has the ability to push that momentum forward even with the economy in the tank and position downtown for another push forward.
For Moorlander, and MattnSTL Skyhouse will make number two after the Bottle District. Believe me I hope this doesn't become a pattern, but I really wanted these two projects to take off.
That's two. Still not one after another and for sure not a trend. That is if Skyhouse really is dead, and none of us know for absolute certainty.
There is also potential for someone else to come in and buy the plans. Remember that the Park East Tower was not originally an Opus project. Not saying that will happen or that anything will happen, but there is still plenty of potential for this building to rise.

Lets not write this one off yet. When I drove by yesterday the was someone inside the sales office. I may try and stop by there this weekend and probe around.
With the plans in place, the land owned, and the building demolished there is reason for optimism that the project could still move forward when the market can better support its construction. Sad to hear, but not the end of the world either. The key is for downtown to keep moving forward in the coming years so that when the economy improves, this project can be restarted.
I walked by the sales center today, and there was a sign on the door that read..."The SkyHouse Sales Center is currently closed as we are out selling SkyHouse Condominiums."
This really told me nothing at all.

Jive called today and talked to someone. They said the project is definitely still on, but they closed the walk-in sales center because the market is slowing down. They told him that pre-sales were at about 30% and they need 40% to break ground. ???

Thankfully someone has put these silly rumors to rest!!!!!
Thanks for getting the scoop, Jive. I'm glad I didn't panic about this.
