Whio's paying for this? Funds should not be expended on buying perfectly functioning and adequately maintained buildings to demolish for green space. Especially when there's a very green empty lot one block south and the Four Corners park/playground one block north, and there's already a two lot community garden on the block.

I hope they will tear those two down as well...and build something new. Des Peres really needs a shot in the arm. It's one of the weak spots in an otherwise great neighborhood.

I've always wondered why nothing has been proposed for the empty lot at the NW corner of Pershing & Des Peres. Pretty sure an apartment building once stood there, but for decades it's been empty, little more than an underused, unofficial parklet. With a direct connection to the Forest Park pedestrian overpass, walking distance to the Skinker blue line Metro station, and close proximity to Wash U., it's amazing to me that developers don't see the dollar signs.

How many units do you think could fit on that lot?

I notice all the proposed and under construction apt buildings in town have many.

I doubt the neighborhood would favor one more than three stories there.

Here you go, Des Peres looking from (just south of) Pershing north toward Waterman. Notice that the apartment building and two houses on Waterman are unchanged today. But the west side of Pershing was a ravine. And the building to its west has been replaced.

Part of me wishes there was still a river there instead of a street.

Except for the flooding.

^ At that point in time, Ravine is a kind word to use considering it looks pretty much like a ditch that was turning into a dumping ground.

Can certainly understand from the viewpoint of flooding and sanitary reasons why so many creeks and rivers became ditches or covered over during that period. However, Imagine if someone had someone had the vision or were ahead of their time to have kept River Des Peres in its natural state by introducing natural buffer zone. The greenways would have been awesome

And provided the water was clean, it would be cool to have a place in the heart of the city to go kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, etc.

5766 Pershing by X3. Too skinny methinks. The lot is 33' wide. This design feels more appropriate for a 25' lot.

A nice story about growing up in the neighborhood 1920s-30s on page 7 of the Times of Skinker DeBaliviere.

Buy this house! 5859 DeGiverville. Resurrected from a fire thanks to the hero rehabber and HTCs and Neighborhood Preservation Tax Credits. No, I have no personal financial interest in its sale.

Four more houses going up on 5700 McPherson. 5732. 5736, 5740, 5773.
That leaves 3 empty lots left on that block.
Hope maybe someday some of the over-sized Pulaski Bank parking lot gets built on.
