Brennan’s is back on July 30th! I managed to get into the new space once before the fire. Very cool setup, will be nice to have them back.

Great stuff!
i also heard there is a Colombian restaurant (El Sitio?) going into the old LLewelyn's space on McPherson. Talked to a painter out front a couple weeks ago.

New Bailey’s location coming to Shaw. Hadn’t seen this here, or maybe I missed it. Great to hear tho.

El Sitio will open in the former Llywelyn’s space in the Central West End this summer

Looks like a great concept and add to the neighborhood!

re Latin restaurant, the excellent Mango was unfortunately a victim of the pandemic. They seemed to be consistently busy at lunch and dinner.
Yeah! Mango was a good Peruvian restaurant. I remembered it been always packed as well. I wonder if they’ll ever come back again. Now that you mentioned South American cuisine I would add Colombian and Argentinian as well. I don’t know if there’s a Brazilian population in Saint Louis but a Brazilian steakhouse would be good as well. I don’t count Fogo de Chao or Texas de Brazil as a real Brazilian Steakhouse. Its more of a Brazilian Rainforestkipfilet wrote: ↑Sep 07, 2021re Latin restaurant, the excellent Mango was unfortunately a victim of the pandemic. There's not one downtown, but there are a couple of options in the City for Brazilian food. Brazilia Bar and Restaurant on South Grand is quite good, or at least it was a few years back when I last visited: https://www.brasiliastl.com/ And Yemanja near Benton Park also has authentic Brazilian cuisine: https://yemanjastl.com/JJ Rivera wrote: ↑Sep 07, 2021Yeah! Second rbb's advice. Brasilia on S Grand is a more traditional churrascaria. Yemanja serves a bit more elevated/fusion food. As someone who has spent some time in Brazil, I can confirm that both restaurants are excellent. I've never been to any of the chain steakhouses that you mentioned so can't really compare, but my understanding is that they tend to be very overpriced.
For something that is more or less Argentinian, you have Asador del Sur in Maplewood. It is not exactly Argie as the owners are Uruguayan and Colombian if I recall correctly, but good enough I would say.
There is also Fritanga (Nicaraguan) on Jefferson and Cofeestamp which serves Honduran style snacks on Jefferson/Gravois.

Yeah Fritanga is awesome! I’m friends with the owner. But all these restaurants and non are authentic Latin Caribbean cuisine lol… Some people would say Mayo-Ketchup at Lafayatte Square but thats far from authentic and way off in flavor.kipfilet wrote:Second rbb's advice. I can't speak for those, but I can confirm that Brasilia on S Grand is pretty authentic.
JJ, if you're looking for the closest to authentic then I'd think you might want to start along Cherokee. The majority of the places there are specifically Mexican food, but there are at least a couple that broaden out from there. Major qualifiers here - I'm as white as they come, so you're in a much better position to judge authenticity than I am.
Sueño Latino at 2818 Cherokee says they're a family-run restaurant that serves Honduran, Mexican, and Caribbean Food: https://saintlouiscentralamericanfood.com/
Little Jamaica Island Style, 2732 Cherokee is a restaurant and bar is run by the same Jamaican couple that operate Caribbean Delight at 3526 Gravois Ave, and the menu is supposed to be similar.
I'll keep digging as I can.

Thanks! And thanks all for posting and helping! But we needs restaurants downtown! I don’t want to drive! He said Niche's Brasserie, the French restaurant located next door, has thrived "and needs room to expand."
"We will be re-opening the (Taste) space very soon as BRASS BAR serving French Snacks and Cocktails," Craft wrote. "It will be a great place to pre-game your Brasserie dinner with an aperitif and snack or to finish your meal with a digestif and dessert."

Does anyone know what is going on with Byrd & Barrel? They were formerly in Marine Villa near Cherokee but were slated to move out to Hampton.
It feels like that news hit about a year ago and I just don't see that we're any closer to them returning. Wondering if the pandemic killed them.

I had friends who tried to get lunch there before Christmas and it was closed with a For Lease sign in the window. Don’t know if that’s always been there or if it’s new though.

Did your friends go to the Marine Villa or Southwest Garden location?
The Marine Villa location shut down a year or so ago, maybe even longer than that at this point. They announced that they were relocating to Southwest Garden. I've seen absolutely nothing happen since.

Maybe we’ve finally reached saturation on chicken places and Bird and Barrel is the first to get ‘plucked.’
They also had a stand at Enterprise Center and that got rebranded for this season.KansasCitian wrote: ↑Jan 05, 2022Did your friends go to the Marine Villa or Southwest Garden location?

I thought they were going in to the old Plager's Place on Hampton?

It is possible that Slim Chickens up the road became a major threat to money-makin'. Or maybe the owners had a stroke of bad luck and tried moving to a larger location at the wrong time - during a global pandemic.
Yeah, I've seen no movement whatsoever on the location that they were slated to move into.STLer wrote: ↑Jan 05, 2022They tried to visit the Hampton location.
I'm really starting to think that they folded. Was hoping somebody on here could confirm.
