^ ??, ????????????!
That was a bad dig in a union town Smile
I dream of the day when that's not the case.
I skated by Red earlier this evening. The lights were on inside the restaurant. That said I'm really excited about the opening of Red....
It looks very Boho sheek .

Why don't we have a good, upscale, um, Balkan restaurant on WashAve?
I think this restaurant is taking up 3 additional parking spaces for valet. At least so says the Midwest Valet attendants. Now we'll be back where we started from when Copia nearly had the whole street hijacked.
Something has got to give. There must be a better balance between the needs of business, residents and other individuals. The valet company already has 3 spaces on the block, and 6 if you count the fire zones they also use... No valet company should need more because they just need a buffer space to move cars to parking lots in the back anyway. Why are they choking off public streets to artificially create demand for valet parking when it's not overly safe to park in poorly lit, unsafe parking in the back parking lots?
We fought and won against Midwest Valet last time for turning our public street private. Looks like it may be time to act again...

This is ridiculous. We should ask our Alderman to pass a resolution stating the max number of metered parking these valets can hoard/block. The residents and business should understand their symbiotic relationship. Having either angry with the other is not good.
A new sign has been placed above the restaurant on Washington. It looks like there set to open rather soon.

They are suppose to have their Grand Opening on Thursday. It will take a lot of work to get it open in 72 hrs.

They'll have to do it without food. I looked in the back window last night, and there's no way the kitchen will be ready.

Saw the sign yesterday during the day. Hopefully it will light up at night, as it would add to the growing number of neon signs up and down Wash.

LOL. I knew it!
I sorta figured that when I walked by yesterday to check on putting it in my column for Thursday, but I didn't want to rain on their parade if they actually pulled off a miracle.
BTW, the sign is wired, so it will be illuminated, although I don't think it's neon. In any event, a shot up and down Washington (like the one on a recent St. Louis streets directory from about 1940) is soon going to look very, very cool.

The sign was on last night. Looking good.
Not sure how long before they'll be open. A coworker who lives right by it says they put the floor down and ripped it all back up last week.

They had pulled the hardwood out to pour a concrete floor. The floor went down Monday. It looks like most everything else is done. They are still installing the HVAC, so barring any misshaps it appears that they might make the 19th for opening.

They must have finished the HVAC, becuase I just walked by and cold air was pouring out the front door. Place looks nice.

I think this has to do with the back of the house. If you go behind the building on St. Char you can see the monster unit in the back lobby and the hanging bracket on the building.
Are they going to make the July 19th opening? I walked by this weekend and it looked as if they had some way to go.
I called and left a message asking for confirmation of the date, but no one has returned the call yet, so I'm guessing no. It's pretty nervewracking trying to get a new place open.
stuck my head into the space earlier today and it still looks like significant work needs to be done. They still have not completed the HVAC and the kitchen still needs a lot of TLC. If I were opening in 48 hrs I would hope to have started training by now and they are not even ready for that yet. Doesn't bode well for the 19th IMO.TB1000 wrote:Are they going to make the July 19th opening? I walked by this weekend and it looked as if they had some way to go.

Here's a new one....
Apparently RED didn't (or maybe couldn't) pay the HVAC company. So they went back in and removed everything - AC, duct work, etc.
I'm sure this hasn't been their only issue since they've missed all their opening dates so far, but it couldn't have helped.
