^ If you wouldn't mind, could you please elaborate? I thought about giving this place a try some time, but I haven't heard much word of mouth after reading mostly favorable reviews of the place after it first opened.

Heard they shut their doors last night, perhaps for good. Been a down few weeks people, get out and support these locals...

Well if Red is really closed this should be a warning to potential new businesses downtown not to use the word red in their names. All three that I can think of right now no longer exist: Red Moon, Panama Red's (this one at least is sort of still is around) and now Red apparently.

I really hope they some how aren't closed. My wife and I just moved down here a month ago and so far Red was our favorite place to go. The food may have been better at Lucas Park Grille, but it was still good at Red and the atmosphere at Red was great. It seems odd that they would close after only six months or so of opening.

^ Very true. Those looking for Red food have to leave downtown to head to Red Sea, Red the BBQ Man, or Red Lobster. (I think there's a Red Robin, too, but I have never been there.).

Other colors are better represented: Black Bear and Black Thorn come to mind. And there's plenty of Blues, none closer (and few better) than Blues City Deli.

I went here a while back and really liked the place. The food was good and I thought the whole Soviet/Eastern European atmosphere was great. I felt like I was in a James Bond movie. It was a very unique theme.

We love red, but hardly go. It is/was a little to pricey to go often. I dont think they priced their menu accordingly. We would have gone there at least 300 percent more (aka 3x) if they lowered their prices.

Just my stance.

I have said it before and I will say it again. You have to get out and support the businesses if you live on Wash Ave. If its even for just a few drinks it still makes a difference. If the businesses close then the area loses some of its attractiveness and could create a negative perception.

^ Um, folks. Unless someone has definitive information that Red is closed (other than "no answer on the phone" or "there weren't any lights on Thursday night"), posting that they are is really, really detrimental, both to the restaurant's business and to the image of downtown. I'd suggest some discretion. (And I'll start making some calls to see if I can get a clear answer.)

From someone who works there. That was Tuesday night that a friend was with her after they "shut their lights off." now, if they were open last night, don't know what's up.

There were people in the kitchen tonight.

At some point in time, I may have more to say on this subject. But for now, I wish them only the best.

Sorry, but I'm only going to put my money down at a restaurant that's good. I don't want to support my hard earned money on a place that has lousy food or service. If it's good, then yeah, but if not, why bother?

This is good news I guess. That side of the block would have been a little depressing with both Copia and Red out.

Regarding the note above about supporting your local restaurants from DT 2007...the food here was pretty good, and he mentioned just getting a cocktail or two. Everything makes a difference for these guys...

OK so after 3 fun games of Bowling at Flamingo (next to some hotties I might add)

I went with a friend from Indiana across the street to RED, I told him I wasnt sure about its future and have never been so I wanted to pop in.

They had lots of people in the front bar area, and a few tables in the back eating dinner.

We ordered a Grey Goose and a budlight, the bartender said the credit card machine was down so we said we would pay with cash.

He was apologetic and bought us our next round !! :)

The TV's were not working and just had the directtv symbol on the screen.

I would say there was close to 25 people in the place, not bad for a thursday night.

I didnt ask or pry about REDS future, but listened closely and didnt hear ANYONE talking about them closing..

Who knows, but they were busy and very much open last night..

I do not know "all", but probably more than most on this board. But I am taking the advice from above about not engaging in rumors regarding a currently viable business.

Sounds like rumors of Red's demise have been greatly exaggerated. Hmm...where have I heard that before?

As with all things, if you want to ensure that they stay in business, eat dinner there.

Should we consider ourselves to have a vested interest in their establishment as a viable business, then make sure to drop in and get your Grey Goose drinks. Only by establishing a base level of customers will a business, downtown or otherwise, be able to reach profitability and long-term sustainment of the business model.

I had dinner at Red on Friday night. The bar was busy and there were several tables taken in the dining area. I had the braised lamb shank and it was delicious.
