I like the idea but I would like to see more of some smaller buildings just to fill up all the gaps downtown 500 to 600 ft buildings, it could be office or condos I don't care just more.

I don't know how to insert renderings into actual shots of the real skyline yet, that's the next thing on my list. I think the previous images are very off considering there only about 6 3d buildings in the google earth warehouse for stl. I have a few great pics of the actual skyline that I'm going to try to insert the image of my building into. I have a feeling it will look much more appropriate when the true scope of downtown is shown in the pictures  . Lower buildings would provide more density...and possibly a better skyline (2 500 or 600' buildings instead of 1 1000). I feel that for the time being though, we should focus our hopes on a building much taller than that. I think we really need to break the arch's current height mark in order to begin true advancement in the city towards a truly big downtown. 500's would be amazing progress, no doubt, but I think a building significantly taller than the arch would really shatter some perceptions that have unfortunately become all but written in stone for our downtown. Just my take.

It would be nice to see a building taller than the arch downtown. Can you insert the image of the MW tower along with some made up smaller buildings and see what that would look like.

I'm with keef. I think to make a bigger downtown, emphasis needs to be put on both the streets and the skyline. I too agree that two 600s would make a better skyline while filling in two gaps. But it would also provide life to two seperate areas of downtown. People hail Cincy's skyline, and excluding the arch(I know, I am tired of people saying that too since its there) I think Cincy does have a better skyline. But, Met Square is taller than Cincy's tallest. So, I'm all for density over height. I understand your point too, I just disagree.

*sigh* I dream of a day when we actually have problems like this: "So, you want to build a 550' and a 450' or a 1000'?" 8)

Did anyone else think it was totally funny that of all the buildings downtown included on that, that the Kiener Garages were entered in? Haha, Awesome.

Great job on the building, 2020. I'd really like to see something like that building, although, I'm not sure about your color selection. I don't like the white. ;)

Trent get out of my head... I thought the same thing about Kiener, and the color choice. Ha!

Haha i'm still workin on the actual building. Color has not even been contemplated yet. I have done about 1/3 of the exterior design so far, just went with what I had at the time for the demonstration. It won't be white! (I'm thinking plenty of glass though.)

Does anyboby know of any other companies besides centene looking for grade A office space in the st louis area? I'm just wondering if there is enough demand for giant office towers in downtown st louis.

I do not know if there are any specific companies looking for grade A space in downtown, but I do know that there is practically no grade A space in downtown available. I'm not even sure that the MET is considered grade A...does anyone else know? I think if there were any companies that were specifically looking for space, they would be able to couple with a developer fairly easily and construct a new tower with extra space for future tenants. I guess this is what needs to happen to get MW done, or any other tower for that matter.

I'm gonna go ahead and get started on this request. I'm very sorry but I'm in the process of buying a new car/moving back to school/working nights/and generally every thing else right now. In my spare time I'm working on the assorted made up smaller buildings (have 1 complete) and have yet to start the MW Tower. I'm hoping to have it finished relatively soon after I get back to school. I appreciate your patience and I hope you like the final product. Check back in around 2 weeks from now, hopefully I can have something to show you!

I was hoping for a Bauhaus or Brutalist tower.

You mean something like this? 550 feet of beautiful windowless concrete.

^

I LOVE IT!!!

Though I do fear that it would be attacked by a band of rouge Ents. Can't be good for the perception of violence in the city if there's always some massive war for a ring around it.

As a former resident of San Francisco now living in downtown St. Louis, I'm an avid consumer of both SF and STL news. I thought I'd share a project underway in San Fran to build an 80 +/- story tower plus transit terminal downtown. The link to the article includes photos of the final three designs. Something like these would look great here in STL:

Oh, to have names like Pelli, SOM, Rogers, Hines, Forest City, and Rockefeller all competing to build a building in The Lou...

The SOM proposal is the best IMNSHO.

I like the first and third, with the first a little higher. I would easily take all three in St. Louis. One day...

The Pelli proposal kind of makes it look like San Francisco is giving the rest of the world the finger.

Let's take the 2nd (or 3rd) place design! There was an interesting article in the NY Times this Sunday about architectural competitions. One of the complaints (predictably) was that a firm may put in a significant amount of time and money and get nothing in return - well, we could build one h3ll of a skyline with some cast-offs. Before anyone starts talking about StL settling for being a 2nd or 3rd rate city, all three designs above are great and would look fantastic in San Fran, Chicago, NYC or StL.

Well, as Beavis would say, "Heh heh...heh heh...cool!"

Seriously, I'd take any of these towers in St. Louis.

Wow, cool renderings.

The intra-city battle for Global City status continues...

The Rogers tower seems to compliment the Golden Gate Bridge towers

The Pelli rendering would seem to compliment the TA tower

And SOM... been doing alot of work in Asia.... Where the envelope is being pushed harder.

Cant tell about the plaza in the SOM plan, but that could be "Pritzker Pavillion-ish" and really cool.
