I thought the point was that the PD always dwells on how nothing would happen in the city without 'tax handouts.' You never see: "Westfield Mall is expanding, offering exciting new stores . . . of course this wouldn't be possible without our tax dollars heavily subsidizing ever-increasing road construction so that the mall developers can make millions."

Of course nothing would happen in Eureka or Fenton or with our highways without a 'tax handout,' but of course most individuals on this board already understand that.

Hope to have a reply from his either today or tomorrow.

Will keep everyone informed.

Member of media was contacted by McGowan today. Said he was not ready to discuss this project, but was willing to talk about any others.

It's OK to play it 8) at the moment - as long as we all get the inside scoop when this breaks! I understand the mods may be able to track you down if you don't deliver :D

This is unfair!!!

I am very excited for St. Louis and it is not nice to announce this huge of a project then back down when asked for more information.

This building would be one of the greatest we have.

McGowan isn't backing down, because no project has been announced.

Why did they have a model displayed on the downtown living tour of this project if they haven't announced it yet? Isn't that kind of unprofessional?

I don't know. But I wouldn't really call it unprofessional.

Honestly, We all knew he would not comment on this building...It's unprofessional to comment on projects early on for a # of reasons... Lets not harp on McGowan...

Well he DID spill the beans to Alonzo!

Thinking of an 81-story tower keeps me up at night! I know, I know, mid-rise density would pull together the fabric of our CBD, encourage more development, not become an island . . . blah, blah, BLAH!

It sounds as though the design is probably somewhat set, but I would love for the tower to evoke something specific to St. Louis. Hold on, these may be misses, but . . . how about a meandering rift down one side to represent the river? A few jagged set-backs to mirror the bluffs? Some kind of tiered flat top to reflect Monk's Mound? What else could make this a St. Louis skyscraper and not something from Atlanta, Houston or Charlotte?

Because an all-brick, 81-story skyscraper would be the coolest thing any of us have ever seen.

My research has indicated that even one side of brick would be cost prohibitive . . . and what would say "St. Louis Metro" more than vinyl? West Countians would flock downtown to eat on the largest prefab deck any of 'em have ever seen!

Thanks for the compliments on the name. Does anyone remember who Alonzo P. Hawk was/where I got that name? Just curious...

Don't forget that McGowan didn't just say this info to me, he said it in front of an entire 50 person class (Entrepreneurship) and two teachers (Hayden and Goede).

I heard this morning on KTRS 550 that Kevin McGowan is going to be on Inside OUt, a program that airs Saturday from 12 - 3.

I caught this on the fly (while switching dials) so I won't guarantee accuracy of info.

This is just FYI; it shouldn't have anything to do with the tower.

i wonder fi they're waiting for a time closer to the Fall Loft Tour to announce. Or even have a big presentation set up there. McGowan/Walsh loves to put up a big spectacle at these. Though honestly, lately, it really seems like Jacob has been getting more attention publicly, having their sales office being the center, etc. maybe MW will use this announcement to get some attention back. just a thought....
