phobia wrote:My bad, I misaddressed that post. I've corrected it; what I intended was the surface lots behind Dorsa. Lucas has great potential to the west of America's Center, this is close to the convention center and hence Metrolink, and there's even a neighboring empty lot for halo development.

No problem, I actually like the first suggestion, if the two loft buildings could be accomodated somehow. Regarding your second suggestion, I suspect that all of those lots west of the convention center, between Cole and Lucas and 9th and 11th, are being reserved for the future expansion of the convention center, if that should ever be necessary (Hopefully, it will). Can't say as I would be sorry to see the Holiday Inn, surface parking, parking garage, and those ugly low-rise office buildings go.

I just rode my bike down to look for 1111 Locust and see what was there. I think that 'Salt of the Earth' is at 1113 Locust and there is nothing but a parking lot to the East of it. I think that parking lot should be built on, but I don't think it quite big enough for the base of a 71 story tower.

Next Ride: 1001 Lucas.

Downtown or a very close to downtown is the only place that this tower should be located. Greenway is fine as long as it is well connected and/or incorporated into the CBD fabric. Too long has 40 been a barrier. Also south of 40 - it wouldn't compete with the arch for views/prestige.. I like the idea just south of 40 along the proposed Chouteau Greenway. Maybe the big announcement that was promised includes not only this but also several other towers at this CG development.(at which time Matguy70 will have his hands full differentiating between Chouteau conversation and MW tower conversation)

Though I do love the fact that trent commented about. From Downtown to Clayton/Richmond Heights, you have like 99% of the high rises in the metro area. We should concentrate on keeping the high-rise buildings in this area, north of 40. The book ends are already well established and built.

Isn't potential location for the only such supertower proposed for StL appropriate at this point in the discussion's life?

He was referring to the Clayton discussion on whether it is good for St. louis. There is already a thread for that. Clayton as part of the location discussion is fine.

Any news on the "supposed" upcoming rendering? Maybe we will have to wait until the next work week begins...regardless, I am extraordinarily anxious to see the design.

So, if we are talking about a new icon (note: not symbol) for the city of St. Louis, I would assume we mean a piece of innovative and contemporary architecture (hopefully). That being the prospect in my mind, I got thinking how incredible the "book-ending" of St. Louis might look if Ghazi had not distorted so horribly the design of TBD. "Shards of glass" towers that compliment the arch and an ultramodern high-rise in the southern portion of the city (Choteau Greenway or near Busch) would be breathtaking. And while each piece would be distinctive and eye catching in their own right, that combination would actually reinforce the status of the arch as the central focal point of the city.

Just a little dreaming and my 2 cents.

My question about A.G. Edwards related to the question of what corporation in St. Louis has the need and the means to have the tower named for them? This company would provide a significant portion of the financing and make the entire idea more likely. For example, AB's headquarters building could easily become occupied by other corporate functions. Or maybe a new company locating to the region?

Clayton as part of the discussion isn't fine!

I thought Urban St. Louis was hooking up the rendering soon. I always get excited for renderings. Plus, when we see the design for the building, it might help to figure out where it might go best.

And I wouldn't have a problem if the building was directly south of 64/40, I just don't want to see it on Chouteau or futher south.

Where could it go south of 40 where it would be close to the link and not look out of place?

Directly south. Practically right up against the highway.

I'd say West of Paddy O's, and directly adjacent to the highway. This still leaves room for the lake.

I think this will come to fruition. My thoughts are that since Reuters has it's operational hqd for the United States (old Bridge Communications) and SAVVIS Communications scored several large NYC and Chicago firms as clients (AMEX, CBOT, etc.)- I believe that the number of high profile visitors that have come to Saint Louis have been wined and dined, and like what they see. And they also see a city that is ready for growth but also a city that cares about its past.

And on a personal level, most of my family lives out of Saint Louis and all of them, since they haven't been to Saint Louis in several years if not decades are completely in love with the changes they see.

Of a most noticable note is the City Mueseum. I don't know what it is about that place, but every single out of towner I have ever taken are stunned by that attraction.

what ever happened with that darn rendering

Well since we don't have a rendering yet... any opinions of what your ideal design would look like? What current world building would you like it to emulate?

Met 3 Building

^Just click "Enlarge", squint and look at that.^

It looked similar to that building, of course I am told that the rendering I saw was the OLD rendering, and I haven't seen the NEW one.

give him a break, it wasnt that hard to understand. sure it wasnt with perfect grammar but most stuff on here isnt. and it shouldnt be, this is an internet forum. anywho, he was just wondering if the mideast conflict could have an effect on this and stuff in general in the US. from someone who follows the mideast a lot, i highly doubt it. stuff like this has actually happened a lot over the past cpl decades and with the exception of the oil embargo in the 70s, generally doesnt stop stuff here. it's not close to big enough and i doubt it will become so to actually talk about it on a discussion over this tower.

st louis kid, chill out on guy legend. he was quoting urbanstlouis' post. urbanstlouis' post was after your question and was actually responding to it so he included it in his post. the cough was in response to the rendering that urbanstlouis said he'd post, but with projects like this, stuff always comes out way after it was promised so i guess we all just gotta be patient. i imagine if it's already 85% financed by wall st we should be getting a rendering soon enough.

now i'm not looking for any new information, just a source on the old. as some of you might remember i'm writing a thesis on the sustainability of downtown's revival and need to cite a source to talk about this project and a search of yahoo hasnt gotten me any. so if anyone knows of a newspaper article or anything official in print talking about this i'd appreciate it.

wait a minute --- was someone attacking me for suggesting that oil prices might have an influence on the lending rate? Isn't that basic economics? (and does nto turmoil in the middle east = higher oil prices)? Those posts were erased .... am I being satarized here?
