^ Supposedly it will be qualifying play against a team from this side of the ocean. Can't see how it won't sell out and then some. Meanwhile, I heard there were 5,000+ over at Soccer Park last night.

Was over at the KC Sporting area for the first time.... while I would prefer an MLS stadium in a solid site in the city, I wouldn't at all mind a similar set up to what they have out there in Kansas but in say the Belleville/Scott AFB area with access to Metrolink. Go to a match and come home with a new living room set from Nebraska Furniture Mart!

^^ This is huge! You are right beer city. Finally nice to have one that counts! It will sell out in 10 minutes. It may not be a marque opponent, but to nail down a USMNT game, the 1st qualifier, is huge for STL. Shows how much STL has moved up on the national radar regarding soccer. I think MLS knows this and wants a team here, if the circumstances are right (owner/venue). That USWNT game was awesome. Does anyone know what necessary changes have to be made, to fit a FIFA regulation field?

I would be much more excited if this game didnt count and it was VS a team like Argentina or Germany or any other team in the TOP 100 world ranking. the team that will play vs US will be something that looks like the Meramec Community College B Team.
it will be Aruba or St. Vincent and the Grenadines
know i knew Aruba was a country...no idea they even had a team and i had no idea St.Vincent and the Grenadines existed and im googling it right now to find out where its at...my guess is in the middle of the ocean somewhere.

Agree, the opponent leaves much to be desired, but it does count and the 2018 World Cup journey starts right here in St. Louis. I am sure there's not a soccer - ready venue in the country, that would turn this game down. At this point, it means much more than the game. The 10-20 minutes it will take to sell out completely, will be another feather in the cap of St. Louis soccer supporters and the future of MLS in STL. Just another reason in the eyes of many, to bring soccer to STL. I just hope the weather cooperates. Knowing our luck, it will be an unusually cold November. Hopefully, we have one of those 60-70 degree fall days, that sometimes bleed into November. I'll take 50's and not be greedy.
Hearing there will be permanent changes to Busch Stadium to make the field regulation size. Means there will be more of these in the future.
I assume having retractable seats to get the corner space they needed?dmelsh wrote:Hearing there will be permanent changes to Busch Stadium to make the field regulation size. Means there will be more of these in the future.
That's what I am thinking. They don't need much. Maybe they will share some details at the press conference today at 1pm.dweebe wrote:

I had to read this twice; I initially thought you were commenting on the concessions.DogtownBnR wrote: I'll take 50's and not be greedy.
The whole experience went about as good as it could possibly go, despite the terrible news from France that broke before the game
The AO had their party at the Amsterdam on Thursday - i am told it went well, Guzan and Ream dropped by
The tailgate and march to the match was great
Air went out of the stadium after StV scored - the ambiance was quickly restored after the US goal and maintained for the rest of the game.
Cardinals went out of their way to create a great experience and welcome fans
Largest crowd for a USMNT in Missouri history
about a third of tickets sold to out of towners - heard nice comments on the city and the experience
Bars and restaurants were packed afterword.
I have been told that US soccer was impressed, games against teams as minor as StV&G are usually small draws. There is supposedly talk to adding St. Louis to the rotation of regular stops.
Well done by the Cardinals, AO St. Louis for fostering an upbeat atmosphere

I was at the Amsterdam rally and the game. Great overall experience and nothing but compliments coming from the out of town fans. The weather was amazing for November. Amsterdam was absolutely packed Thursday, street party very lively. Also cool to see local Chileans and Columbians watching their World Cup Qualifier on the patio. My only concern was the fact that some thugs chose Thursday night to terrorize people in South City, 6 robberies from Tower Grove to deep South City. I sure hope no out of towners were victims. Obviously, we do not want anyone to be victimized. All in all, amazing 2 days, hope US Soccer comes back and puts us on a rotation.
On a side note, I saw Sunil Gulati, US Soccer Prez, standing near an elevator, overlooking the crowd, waving at people, looking very happy with the experience. That is a good sign. Also cool to see 2 USMNT players at the Amsterdam, as mentioned.

Looks like David Beckham is having more problems in Miami. A daycare where he wants to build him stadium wants $30 million for the property valued at $368,000.

I didn't realize they want the stadium to butt up right against the Marlins' stadium.

Man those article comments are terrible. That's what I get for reading them, I suppose. Obviously the daycare owner doesn't actually expect $30mil, they just don't want to move.dweebe wrote:Looks like David Beckham is having more problems in Miami. I wonder what Plan B is for them.
Ha! Welcome to America, Mr. Beckham.dweebe wrote:Looks like David Beckham is having more problems in Miami. A daycare where he wants to build him stadium wants $30 million for the property valued at $368,000.

Sounds like Plan B is the suburbs.

Well, he's a foreigner. Maybe we can convince him that St. Louis is a suburb of Miami.dweebe wrote: Sounds like Plan B is the suburbs.
