It's amazing what happens when you get funding!

Especially since it was lightning and raining at the time. Money does amazing things.

Walked by the site of the new garage that will face Tucker today. Looks like they have most of the excavation done and are preparing for the first supports. There is a bunch of rebar ready for the first structural supports. Not sure if those would be called pilings or not, so didn't want to use the term.

Went by there this morning and noticed the same thing. I thought, 'they must be putting in the caissons!'

I just call it tuckpointing. Or sometimes flashing.

In just one day a crane arrived and a building is going up!

Looks like there are pre-fabricated columns 2-3 stories tall being set in place.

Unfortunately, it already seems to be looking like a cheap parking garage :(

Any new pics of this one? I got a camera phone picture sent to me today, looked like a pretty good amount of activity.

A lot of large construction sites downtown despite the economy. When the economy rebounds we can only dream how much more we will see.

Looks like this one isn't going to be that bad after all.

So I thought the last designs that I had seen featured a garage fronting tucker. This looks like it is the original design that featured the garage in between the old building and the new building (not fronting tucker). Did the new building fronting Tucker get scrapped? Did they revert to the original (and much better) plans?

I think it is just going to be one massive garage. :)

Since this is going to be apartments now, did the Lawrence Group change the floorplans?

Well, that's not quite so bad. The small windows/openings disguise the garage a bit.

Good. Because downtown doesn't have nearly enough parking. [/sarcasm]

It looks as if the parking garage extends all the way to Tucker now. It makes for 1 huge garage and looks rather unpleasant. I wish they would have saved the rest for office or residential infill as originally planned.

^^I'm not sure I understand.

The garage was always going to extend to Tucker with retail space on the first floor. The original residential space was going to be built on top of the garage.

Office space wasn't planned for the new structure, it was and still is planned for MoPac.

^I agree they don't build anything like they used to...but I think it could have been much worse...The color fits the MO Pacific building...The street level retail is unimaginative, but then again is street level retail space...

Wondering if the parking will be public as well...I would imagine there will be an uptick in garage requirements when the Peabody opens as well as if many of the projections for the Gateway Mall renovation materialize...This garage would be very convenient for events like Taste of STL and Summer concerts near Soldier's Memorial...This corridor of the Mall could be stunning with Arch and City views, grand old trees and green space, and the other entertainment/diversions if seen through...

I don't think this new structure is going to drive down the real estate market...

What I'm curious about, is the garage still engineered to support a residential tower as per the original plans? I recalled reading that it was going to or was stated as such when the revised plan came about. If so, I gave credit to the developer looking at a long term future.

I thought it was going to look more like this. New construction facing Tucker...Garage...Park Pacific.
