If they lived there, they'd be home by now!
Opus has updated their website. More information is provided on their projects, and I found a clearer rendering for Park East.

Unfortunately, I could not find renderings for any new St Louis towers, but I could find for others. This may give us an idea of things to come.

I really like the looks of their Seattle tower. I'm going off topic now but these guys need to build in the Bottle District.
I have a feeling the Park East will look even better than the rendering (which is really nice...thanks Xing). After visiting their page, I've found I like all the highrises they had renderings of. St. Louis is fortunate to have a company like Opus building and wanting to build more...Any updates on the one at Lindell and Euclid?
I visited the Park East Tower sales office some time ago, and what really struck me was how much glass was on the building. I think the balconies in the renderings kind of take away some of that effect. This is going to be a very modern, glass building. I can't wait!

Hello everyone! I am new to the board, although I have been reading SSP amongst others for some time now. I wanted to post on this board first because I've seen what goes on on the other boards (primarily, SSP, Skyscrapercity, etc.) in terms of our "St. Louis Pride" - evidently, we are ardent about our city which we all love! I am so excited to see this tower rise in the city of STL, along with the multitude of other proposed projects...Jive, Gasm, Xing, MattnSTL, too many to name -- i LOVE the responses you give to poeple on the other boards! Also, anyone else who loves our city I've noticed all your responses...I would love any advice anyone can give me, cuz I'm tempted to start posting on the other boards as well LoL I definitely to give props to all of you... thanks for any help!!
btw, I know most of you hate St. Charles for what it has become...sucking the life out of the city...I do live here (unfortunately) BUT, to give me some credit maybe, we've lived here for the past 20 years - I remember when Highway 94 had absolutely NOTHING on it! stupid urban sprawl....ok, sorry for going on and on.... I hope I can get some guidance / support! Keep on goin' the city of STL!!

HEY!! WELCOME! I'm glad you finally chose to speak up! You'll see that interacting with everyone is a very different, yet enjoyable experience, as opposed to just lurking about. I hope you choose to continue with it!

We can get over that if we know you love and support the city. Not everyone can live here, and it's obvious you didn't go there to live in an ugly sprawl subdivision. Welcome!
MattnSTL is right. The only people who live in St. Charles (or anywhere else) that grate me are the ones who hate/fear the city and think only of their own little world, thinking everyone wants to or should live like that.

Yeah I guess I should not have said "hate St. Charles," maybe just disagree what it stands for?? Some of the trees around our house are older than the house itself, none of the preplanted tiny bendy trees you see all around the burbs...Anyways I would live in any of the new developments going on in the city right now if I could afford it! I was wondering if anyone has heard any more information on the Valencia Place I believe it was called near UC Tower? That would be an awesome addition to the area, esp. with the Boulevard, MetroLink stop going in, etc...
Finally, I know this might not be the place to say (although its only my second post) but the STL vs. KC threads that I've seen on the other websites like SSP or SSC?? Freakin hilarious!! I went to school in KC and lived there for 4 years, so I got a good chuckle out of those threads...anyways sorry to ramble once again!

Also, St Charles city really hasn't come off all that bad too me, compared to the others in the county. Downtown St Charles is a bit interesting.

I agree Xing, DT st. chuck really isnt bad...but honestly, when I go to and from work, I dream of a skyline on the river while going across the bridge...damn that Ameristar casino to block the possible view! Although, I've heard rumors about the abandoned hotel (was a haunted house during Halloween) going eastbound could be an aquarium...interesting!! Plus, I look at the development in Earth City everyday as well...was truly hoping for a new building under construction to be like, anywhere from 6-10 stories!! Just wishful thinking though, only one floor..Still was hoping the cranes would go up a couple more stories!!
Xing, thanks for posting the updated rendering from the OPUS website. The orientation is completely different than I imagined. Don't know why, but I assumed the tower would be facing Euclid. Instead it will be on Laclede facing in the direction of the Majestic Cafe. It really looks good.
I think I mentioned it before, but there used to be a tall building on this site, which faced Euclid towards what used to be the West End Cafe and is now a bagel place. That may be why I assumed the new building would face Euclid as well. The old building was similar to the Doctor's Building. Same era and I believe it had doctor's offices. There was a drug store on the first floor facing Euclid. Behind the doctor's office building on Laclede and whatever that little cross street is, there was a good sized apartment building that had been badly remuddled. I believe it is also gone. I think the old apartment building dated from the 1920s and was right on the sidewalk with no landscaped set back as seen in most CWE buildings. Back in the 60s or 70s, it was remuddled and had weird modern windows that slanted out, etc. And of course behind that building, facing Laclede are the beautiful buildings with balconies and french doors that exist today. Those are some the prettiest buildings in the city. Next on Laclede towards the park is The Parkway. We used to call it the D Building, because it seemed like a poor cousin to the ABCs facing Kingshighway. Actually if memory serves, it was originally called the Devonshire or something like that, so it came by the D nickname honestly.
I love thinking of the upcoming experience of walking up Euclid from the Metro station and walking past all these new buildings.

Wow, expat-- thanks for the info! I didn't know a high-rise used to stand in place of the Heart Association building. I'd love to see some old pics of it. Also, remember the Argyle Apartments where the library stands today?
I also deeply miss the Round Building-- I think it added a lot of quirk to the CWE. And I may be alone here, but I think the Doctors Building should stay. It's ugly, but there are plenty of vacant parcels to build giant high-rises on before we start sacrificing existing buildings that serve a function.

Gasm, there may be some confusion. I posted about what existed at Euclid and Laclede, where the Park East is rising. I don't know what predated the Heart Association building.
Yes, I remember the Argyle Apartments. I loved those buildings and hated to see them torn down. They were charming buildings and had HUGE apartments. I knew people that lived in the buildings. The alleys were very cool. Its a small thing, but I used to like waiting for the bus in front of the Argyles - it had a big city feeling that I liked. At that time, they were shabby and cheap. But, still had a charm. A great place for the bohemian set. They hadn't been remodeled over the years and were pure. All they needed to be beautiful was refinished floors & updated kitchens. It was a crime to tear down the Argyles. No doubt the new library is a nice addition to the neighborhood, but they should have left the Argyles and built the library on an empty lot. The more I think about it, I would prefer to keep the Doctor's Building and build the Renn on a nearby lot. But alas, I rarely get my way. At first I was so excited, I was ready to give up the Doctor's, but the more I think about it, I like that cranky old building. This may sound funny, but I love the elevator buttons at the Doctors. I haven't been in the building in years, but they had 1950s elevator buttons, which I really like. I love the way they push - sounds weird, I know.
Too bad about the Round Building. I love it because, even after it was empty for many years and is long gone, it remains in our collective concious. I love it because it is known far and wide by a generic name. Would anybody know what you meant if you mentioned the square building, the short building, the tall building?

Ya with all of the people that live outside of the downtown area why dont they build a subway. They have plenty of room for stations with all of the green space and the underground caverns and caves that sparked the beer buissness might help with the digging. Someone should start a thread about this.
^Forget about Metrolink? While it is slightly south of the main CWE, any new line would be a duplication of service and prohibitively expensive. The caves would actually make it more expensive, because caves are alive, with water and limestone erosion. They are also not level, and I don't think any run in this particular direction anyway. Any subway line would make it a point to avoid caves.
Thanks for the memories, Expat. I think you might be even older than me! By the way, put your thinking hat on, because you're about to hit your 1000th post. Make it a good one!
^He already did. The in thread post count is wrong for many people because of an accidentally deleted thread that was put back on.
Yes, I already had my 1000th post. And pretty much squandered it. Maybe I will think of something special for my 2000th post.
I just want to thank everyone, since everyone is in the thanking mood.
