http://stlouis.cbslocal.com/2013/03/12/ ... XA.twitterAn effort by Missouri and Illinois Senators to name the New Mississippi River bridge after St. Louis Cardinals great Stan Musial has paid off. The legislation unanimously passed the United States Senate late last night.
I think the angle makes them appear connected. I see the cranes out there again today. Maybe they're putting in the last bits. I'd expect a press release and big announcement when they are joined.chaifetz10 wrote:Looking at the construction cam from MoDOT, it looks like the two sides were joined today with the steel beams. No concrete over the steel yet, but it should be up within the next day or two.
There was compromise between Missouri and Illinois lawmakers to name the bridge the Stan Musial Veterans Memorial Bridge. That's too many syllables, and the public will need to come up with a short nickname. Eads Bridge (named after inventor and civil engineer James Eads) is an example of a good name because it's two syllables and easy to pronounce and remember.Mark Groth wrote:Stan Musial Bridge? I prefer, "The Stan." Bureaucrats screwed this one as usual, but whatever.StL2003 wrote:I'm all for recognizing and honoring our veterans, but it seems silly that some legislators caused the naming process to go this route. Honestly, there's so many things named 'Veteran's Memorial' road, plaza, etc. across the country that I think the point has already been proven. My guess is that the public will call it the Musial Bridge.
