Looks like the towers have topped out.
I love seeing landmarks like the bridge northbound on 4th, at the "end" of streets. Two other cool shots/views that are never experienced are walnut going west terminating at city hall- now blocked by the jail bridge. The other is 8th, which runs south from Americas Center, no one gets to drive towards it, of course you can see it by foot.

I'm guessing you can see the new bridge from at least a few seats in Busch Stadium right?
If someone has a nice 300/400mm lens, there is a great shot of the bridge standing on broadway next to the stadium looking north. The pillar centers right in the middle of the plane.
I don't think you'll be able to see it from inside Busch. The skyline will block it.

Update from Newriverbridge.org
August 7, 2012 : Construction on the two Mississippi River Bridge towers is complete. The two towers have reached their final height of 400 feet and crews are placing finishing touches on the towers. Construction of the driving surface for the bridge has started and workers are connecting the first of more than 600 miles of cable to the towers and the roadway. Construction work for the Illinois Approach is proceeding well. Crews have completed installation of all the girders on the Illinois Approach and have started the initial work to form up the driving surface on the project.
The Missouri Approach is complete.
Road deck is starting to be assembled and the first cables are up on either side.
There's a group wanting to put a mural on the big Cotton Belt Freight Depot building near the bridge: Cotton Belt mural could be welcome sign for new Mississippi River bridge

Absolutely agree. Seems like it might make a good Kickstarter project.Mark Groth wrote:Fantastic idea.rbeedee wrote:There's a group wanting to put a mural on the big Cotton Belt Freight Depot building near the bridge: Cotton Belt mural could be welcome sign for new Mississippi River bridge
Or a RallySTL project. Still not fully certain what the goal will be, but the description mentions croudsourcing and crowdfunding. So an STL-centric Kickstarter, I guess?south compton wrote:Absolutely agree. I really, really like the movement on the North Riverfront. We're starting to see meaningful development on an individual, grassroots basis here while, just across the I-70 divide, McKee's massive Northside land-grab...err, development...continues to stagnate and deteriorate.

Update from NewRiverBridge.org
October 26, 2012 : Crews have started construction of the driving surface for the new Mississippi River Bridge. Crews are closing the gap between the two towers by about 160 feet each month and putting up one 40-foot section of driving surface on each side of the towers about every 10 days. Construction work for the Illinois Approach is proceeding well. Crews have nearly completed work to construct the driving surface on the project.
The Missouri Approach is complete.

The RFT posted some photos from a kayaker making his way from Minnesota to Florida, which included a couple mid-river shots of the new bridge. http://blogs.riverfronttimes.com/dailyr ... php?page=2

I learned last night from MODOT that the bridge will be lit. This is the first I have heard of this, and I am very happy to hear it. The lighting is a partnership of St. Louis City, Civic Progress, Regional Business Council, EW Gateway, and Ameren (I think I got that right). The lit rendering looked really good. Can't wait to see the nighttime view out my bedroom windows.
It would be awesome if they put colored controllable LED lights on the bridge and changed the colors for events and holidays. Come on STL, do something different!
It would be cool if all of the cables could glow in many colors (Red for V-day or big Cardinals game, blue for soothing effect/ the Blues, green for Christmas, orange for Halloween, red, white and blue for July 4, Veteran's, Memorial day). BTW they raised another pair of the cables today. Check out the webcam for pics.

Heard on the news this morning that a contractor messed up a decent-sized bridge project on the Illinois side.... didn't sound like it would push anything back too much but they are responsible for costs of re-doing it so I'm sure they won't be making any money.

Will help remind us how big of a boondoggle this thing is.quincunx wrote:It would be cool if all of the cables could glow in many colors (Red for V-day or big Cardinals game, blue for soothing effect/ the Blues, green for Christmas, orange for Halloween, red, white and blue for July 4, Veteran's, Memorial day). I like the idea. Kind of the same idea behind the lighting on the Civil Courts Building, and to an extent, the glowhawk on Lumiere.quincunx wrote:It would be cool if all of the cables could glow in many colors (Red for V-day or big Cardinals game, blue for soothing effect/ the Blues, green for Christmas, orange for Halloween, red, white and blue for July 4, Veteran's, Memorial day). The messed up concrete pour was on one of the ramps in Illinois for the I-70 connection. The contractor, Fred Weber, did not bank the ramp properly to the plans and it would have been unsafe for driving at the designed speed. Looked like an expensive mistake for the contractor based on the length of the pour. You would think someone would have caught that sooner. The good news is that it is only one ramp and they have plenty of time to make the needed changes.
