I vaguely remember one weekend in the 00's where the Blues, Rams and Cardinals all had games. Like Blues on Saturday night, Rams noon Sunday and the Cardinals a playoff game later that afternoon.
At least there is only one game they MLS/XFL actually overlap at the same time at home. So that’s good.
A tweet from former US Men’s Team goaltender Alexi Lallas praised the stadium and said the team told him there wouldn’t be any events/concerts to ensure the best playing surface.
Sorry. I don't know why I think he played that position. I made that mistake years ago and continue to make it.
It would be the only thing that could compete with Saudi money - but I have a hard time seeing them giving that away for 2 or 3 years of playdweebe wrote: ↑Jan 06, 2023I wonder if Ronaldo to KC would have involved the Hunts giving him part of the Chiefs?
Alexi Lalas on Twitter: "Had a wonderful times in St. Louis for the MAC Hermann Trophy and talking to @Hochman about @stlCITYsc, @TimReam5, @BeckySauerbrunn, Sargent, Maradona, #USMNT, & more. Interestingly, @TaylorTwellman's name was never even mentioned. https://t.co/daSPOF2Sfv via @stltoday" / Twitter
Loved the tying goal.. Austin's guy (incidentally from STL per the commentators) literally gave the ball to our guy in the box. Pretty rough. Great to watch and see the win.

^I honestly feel a bit sorry for him. He's going to have a hard time living that down. There's alarmingly little in his official MLS bio. Nothing on the official page at all before yesterday's game, but He got three yellow cards and a red card last year per Google. And no goals and no assists. (He is a defender, to be fair.) Looks like he was playing for SLU 2019-2021, so 2022 was probably his first season in MLS. Young kid. Not much experience. Not much success. And one heck of a boner. I wish him better luck in his next career, because unless he's got some real magic I don't expect this one to continue much longer. That's . . . rough.
I don’t really agree with that. Mistakes like this happen in all professional sports. I always have a laugh when a hockey player puts one in his own net, happens pretty regularly, and to my knowledge its not ended any careers. If he’s a true pro he’ll have no problem putting this past him and moving on, especially if his team is behind him, which they appear to be.symphonicpoet wrote: ↑Feb 26, 2023I wish him better luck in his next career, because unless he's got some real magic I don't expect this one to continue much longer. If he can’t shake this off then he never should have made it to the MLS in the first place.
This was always one of my favorite blunders:
Stefan did retire at the end of that season, though it was due to a spate of chronic injuries at the end of his career, not the blunder. Dallas would go on to win the game in OT, by the way.
Something else I was thinking…should the MLS threads be retitled?
We have a team playing games now and a completed stadium…maybe this thread becomes St. Louis City SC and the stadium thread becomes CityPark Stadium?

^^I hope you're correct. I'm no expert in soccer, certainly. I still feel sorry for the guy, even if I am grateful for the break he accidentally provided.

Kipp Keller is 22 and is going to be fine following this.
What he did is akin to what Kolten Wong did during Game 4 of the 2013 World Series when he was picked off at first base for the final out.
Young players make mistakes. They can also learn from them.

it would be akin if Wong did that 3 times in a game.RockChalkSTL wrote: ↑Feb 27, 2023Kipp Keller is 22 and is going to be fine following this.

Keller didnt pick up Parker on goal 1
of course we know the goal 2 mess
and on goal 3 he overran Klauss and which allowed Klauss to cut across for the game winner

On the second goal, the consensus seems to be that Stroud (who played for Austin last year) called for the ball and Keller passed it back in response. If that is the case it could have been called a misconduct violation and Stroud could have been booked for the offense. So that one doesn't rest entirely on Keller as he was the victim of some ethically questionable gamesmanship.

As far as I can tell, this is the first time time St. Louis has played Portland in a professional sports game.
The Spirits of St. Louis never played the Blazers. Correct me if I'm wrong.
1 - 0 all time in professional sports vs. Portland.

^If you only count the top tier, yes. City 2 played Portland Timbers 2 last year. Saint Louis FC played Timbers 2 multiple times in USL. City 2 and Saint Louis FC are/were professional teams. I think there might have been some games against Portland in the AC St. Louis days but I wasn't really paying attention then.
City2 is going to play its games in the new stadium downtown, so there will be affordable soccer tickets at the new stadium.
