Trying to decide if we will hear anything about the sponserships (Jersey/stadium) or new renderings (also Jersey/stadium) before they announce us getting a team later this month. I mean I figure something has to come out first. Or maybe they will just wait til the event.
^ So is that your speculation on a team announcement later this month or some inside scoop?

Purely speculation but when the team is announced I would maybe expect to see a jersey so that means you would get team name and colors, jersey sponsor and a significant look at the overall branding at that time.
More confident than speculation. I'll just phrase it that way.dredger wrote: ^ So is that your speculation on a team announcement later this month or some inside scoop?

Someone tweeted this yesterday... "Just drove past @Amsterdamtavern and saw a group in #MLS4THELOU shirts having photo shoot with “We Did It” scarf. News coming soon?!?!?!"
I've heard branding, team name, etc doesn't happen at all until after the team is awarded. I bet when they announce they have additional renderings/plans/etc and obviously another video like last time.

I would think they would have a name by announcement but I guess it isn't required. I just hope it either is a normal team name like Chicago or Colorado has, or if they go with a more traditional type name they just do Soccer Club like Nashville. FC/United are overused and we already have a STLFC.

Speaking of branding... this is also interesting/important for the local MLS market, more specifically about the Chicago Fire, that came from the Garber talks this past week:
https://www.espn.com/soccer/major-leagu ... nd-liga-mxESPN: What do you make of the talk that Chicago is going to rebrand?
Garber: Chicago is going through a very positive transformation and relaunch of their club, starting with the move from Bridgeview to Soldier Field. I know that they have been spending some time looking at their brand. It's not something I have an opinion on. It's something the team needs to continue to work on determining what the look and feel of the club is going to be as they go through the relaunch of the entire Chicago Fire fan experience. Much more than that, I understand that some fans have a point of view on it, but I have great faith in Nelson Rodriguez and his staff. I'm sure they'll do deep research and will work both internally and externally to make sure that is going to be the right outcome.
ESPN: Can they make money in Soldier Field to the same degree they did in SeatGeek Stadium?
Garber: They're clearly moving down there to Soldier Field because they think it's the best way to engage fans in Chicago. There have been challenges in Bridgeview that we're all well aware of. We all know it's a great soccer market, it's a fabulous sports market. I believe in their team and I believe in their ownership, and I think the move downtown will be the right one.
Editor's note: The Fire have reached an agreement with the City of Bridgeview to leave SeatGeek Stadium. They do not have an agreement yet with Soldier Field.
Yeesh. Don Garber looks like he just woke up from a 3-day binge...dmelsh wrote:

From this week's BenFred Chat -
Q: How about some MLS info? Is progress being made? Any idea when announcement may come?
BenFred A: Great questions. No answers at the moment. There has been speculation something could happen this week, but let's be honest, there has been speculation something could happen this week, for weeks. I don't have anything new other than the usual -- the people close to it are confident it will happen, and the people one step removed from it but closer than most are confident saying it will get done. Stay tuned.

Stadium is going north of Market. Probably helps get construction started sooner. But that is an interesting change.

I think it's a good move. This allows developers to build on the land South of Market.

I think it’s a good move too it’ll help create a neighborhood next to union station

Yes. Hopefully, this allows for more bars and restaurants to open up. Right now you have Maggie Obriens and Sybergs. This is really a dead zone and it needs more to make it come to life. Hopefully, a neighborhood is built next to Union Station. It will minimize the tourist effect that Union Station will have (and already has).Wolfpaw wrote:I think it’s a good move too it’ll help create a neighborhood next to union station

Pretty sure parking was going North of Market. Now I'd expect that parking to go south of Market. I do think the energy the stadium will bring can help Downtown West more on the north side of Market. I hope they build right up to the corner at 20th and Market. Design the thing so there is a great view East, right down the mall. Chestnut Street should be the center vantage point. The Arch lines up perfect with the Civil Courts building at that point. Really couldn't ask for a better site.chriss752 wrote: I think it's a good move. ^ I have a different take, I see two super blocks where as the south of market stadium at least suggested some street grid coming back on the north side of Market and even the possibility of a signature bookend tower for Gateway mall. Instead, I think you will have one superblock north of Market with a stadium and one superblock south of market that will be one large surface parking lot with more green space proposal for years to come.
Nor do I see how this will encourage build up of the area next to Union Station any time soon as it was destroyed as a neighborhood by the failed 22nd street parkway decades ago. Also. the logic of a new stadium going across the street will help build a rebuild neighborhood suggests that the Bottle District/Old North St. Louis should have been built out years ago after the dome stadium was added to the convention center. Sorry, just see this as a big win for the owners who can build a stadium cheaper and quicker because the site north of market will be much easier to build on.
Next question, will we get a full demo of the old 22nd street parkway with a street grid back? or maybe a Soccer Village out of the group? or will St. louis get a new ramp to Jeff Ave after a partial demo & hole in the middle? I can pretty much see the area immediate to the west of Union Station becoming an afterthought in all the fuss of new team and stadium. Finally, it would explain why the hotel being on Old Harry's site dropped their earlier rendering with top side lounge with views into the stadium.

Yeah, if the stadium location is true, expect to eventually see a large below-grade parking garage south of Market with pedestrian access to the stadium under Market. It is a perfect setup, with little excavation required. Hopefully, they can afford a garage that can be built upon.STLinCHI wrote:Pretty sure parking was going North of Market. Having the stadium directly adjacent to Union Station, and much closer to MetroLink, would have been far better, but MODOT probably would not be able to pass the property to the city quickly enough to get the stadium built in time.
Skeptical about the whole "Union Station Neighborhood" thing. I liked the south of Market plan because it took out a humungous parking lot.
Also the whole "union station neighborhood" sounds like another BPV experience. Can't we have something authentic and organic in STL? Like, I don't want to see another money grubbing corporate/chain bar not even in it for the city, but soulless entertainment.
Either way, MLS!!!! I'm looking forward to the new stadium renderings. Also, is Paul McKee still making money on this land deal? I remember mention of him having development rights over this entire swath of land a while ago.
