I believe the only thing that has been promised is sales tax break on purchased building materials, land prepped for building, and the stadium being owned by the city. Am I missing anything?

The vote was on to extend the port Authority through the entire city however that’s likely to not happen

$200 mil expansion fee. I'm sure the MLS told them about the increase before the announcement but damn. #30 probably around $250 million. That's a lot for an already long term investment.

I'm not much of a soccer guy. Way more into baseball and football, and, seeing as I'm a KU grad, basketball.
But this will be exciting if it officially happens. This seems important for St. Louis, and yet another major step forward for the city and region.
I think this will help bridge CWE and Cortex and Midtown and The Grove with Downtown. I can only see good things coming from this.

^ Wait until you end up at an STL vs. KC game. Those will be WILD!
Also, you might wanna jump on that Hockey bandwagon if you're going to pull the trigger and move to STL. STL is a no football zone

My love for the NFL has really fallen off of a cliff in recent years.
I think the NFL's decision to throw a nail-studded bat between St. Louis, San Diego, and Oakland, only to eventually move all teams, let me know how the NFL wants to operate.
I just don't respect their offices anymore. St. Louis did what was asked of them, and they still moved.
I probably will get more into hockey.

Football is fun hockey is better the game is so much quicker and better. The NFL is all about money besides St Louis doesn’t need a NFL team. Mean while if St Louis and Sacramento are officially awarded the 28-29th teams I say I give it all to the Taylor family for making it all happen. This would have never happened if it wasn’t for them.

Honestly, at this point, I think a basketball team would be a better fit here than football. That said, a soccer team is a better fit still. Baseball, hockey, and soccer sounds about perfect.
Basketball would be my preference over football as well. If we could at least show some signs of population growth, I think we could be a candidate for an expansion team, but the more likely scenario would be somebody like the Taylor's buying a team and moving them here. New Orleans, Memphis, or Atlanta could be moved relatively easily imo

I don't think the NFL would ever come back to St. Louis after this lawsuit.
And why would St. Louis ever want them back? Forget Jerry Jones, Stan Kroenke, and that band of fools.
The NBA would be truly wonderful, but I just don't see it happening anytime soon. St. Louis will need to turn itself around and really demonstrate some population growth. Yesterday's news shows the city is still trending in the wrong direction for this to happen.
Give it three to five years, though, and I think we'll start to see some positive changes for St. Louis.

^^ I can see Memphis. Atlanta is too big of a metro region, TV market to think that NBA would give up on. New Orleans like Las Vegas is a place that way too many people go to. But really think the smaller mid market cities such as Memphis, Oklahoma City and so on become fair game when respective owner groups are done with it.
Too get way off topic. St Louis and KC is a good cross state rival but the respective regions don't beat each other up and in some respects compliment each other. I see more of a good ol city bookended vs rural in middle divide in MO. Where as, I feel for Memphis as my perception is that Memphis has really taken a back seat and suffered from the success of Nashville. Could be way off base.
As far as MLS, Billionaires behind the current top contenders for franchises and a list of cities that might also attract another billionaire ownership group offer for the 30th team. The more I think about it the more it made sense for the league to go all in now. The league is looking at $660-650 million pickup and ushering in a new round of ownership groups that count their value in billions instead of millions. The timing depending on your economic outlook is not a bad move.

I always felt St Louis would be a good representative for the NBA always blew my mind why on earth the grizzlies moved to Memphis in the first place however that was our best chance at getting a NBA team here. I do agree St Louis needs to start posting population growth however I think having soccer baseball and hockey are far much better. St Louis taking the NFL to court was a wise decision. They basically conned this city out of money by not being completely honest and thought they get away with it.

Renderings! I like it overall, I wish they would have kept the view of the skyline above the Union Station train shed like the last group did though.

I like it. I'm not sure how it is oriented on the site, except that I think they say the NE corner is one of the open corners, probably where most will enter. Maybe the SW corners leads to that parking garage. How does the clear roof work for shade? Guess I should know this, but how many MLS games are played in the afternoon, vs. night?
There could be a bit of a view from this angle. But that's a stretch. https://goo.gl/maps/mxbnMtv5aTJ6yrpi7

The canopy will be ethylene tetra Fluoro Ethylene so they’ll still be able to get a good skyline view I would think

Meh. It’s pretty boring. We waited all this time for a boxy design. I hope the design changes a little bit more overtime. In addition to this, they need to do something about making the area around the stadium more enjoyable. Right now it’s parking lots, large roads and crap green-space. You’ll also be bordering the Navy Pier wannabe Union Station. It’s a dead zone. I hope fans are willing to walk to Washington Avenue for bars and restaurants because they won’t find much around here. You have 4 bars/restaurants that aren’t that touristy around here. Maggie OBriens, Lombardo’s, Schlafly and Sybergs. Needs more.

Your criticism is a bit harsh I think we should all be thankful that they’ve come this far and that St Louis is actually one of the leading candidates in receiving a team. The rendering is conceptual so there be some tweaking and something tells me there’s going to be a lot more development around the overall project. By the way I happen to love the navy pier wanna be union station

Well, my harshness is my opinion. It could get better or worse depending on the greater area looks. This little sentence in the Business Journal doesn’t give me much hope for the area surrounding the stadium. Do they mean just the first floor of the stadium or the whole neighborhood? The renderings leave out a lot.Wolfpaw wrote:Your criticism is a bit harsh I think we should all be thankful that they’ve come this far and that St Louis is actually one of the leading candidates in receiving a team. Way more seats have outside views than the first design. Every upper deck seat will have a view out of the two cuts. Northern tier will look directly downtown. Southern tier will look towards midtown. Western Tier will look south and Eastern tier will look north towards DT West. The lower bowl is sunk 50 ft, but the upper rows will also have views. I love the new design and the openness created by the cuts. It somehow evokes both modernity and St. Louis' industrial past. Good job!
Pretty clear red is going to be the dominant team color. Works4stl.

Well keep in mind that they aren’t building this stadium for you they are building it for the entire community. Not everything has to have the eye popping pizazz we all would love to see in every development. I think the stadium is about right and will fit in with the immediate revitalizing area. This isnt about which city can build the most modernized wow type of stadium its about building a stadium that fits the overall community and giving them a good product not only venue experience but on the field experience. The least you want is a over gimmicktized stadium 🏟chriss752 wrote:Well, my harshness is my opinion. It could get better or worse depending on the greater area looks.
