^ This has been a very large component of the downtown Indianapolis renaissance. IUPUI is HUGE and is less and less of a commuter campus all the time.

How many students combined between Wash U and SLU? I don't even have a guess.

^ Maybe 20K? ~8K at WU and ~12K at SLU? There are ~12K taking courses at UMSL, ~8K full-time and ~1K living on campus.

That sounds about right.

Oh, to have UMSL in the city. A similar school - University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee - is located in that city's East Side, which is kind of like the CWE/Delmar Loop and really adds to that part of town. I wish we had the same thing here.

But haven't they repositioned themselves as less of a commuter school and now as the main medical campus for IU and Purdue?

I wonder is Webster is going to position downtown as the business/MBA campus while Webster Groves will be the arts/education/English campus.

I don't know if I could stomach watching that show just to see him! Maybe I'll tivo and then blast through it.

WashU is around 10K. SLU is around 7K undergrad and 4K grad students, according to their websites. I suspect WashU is counting grad students in their figure, because it sounds a bit high to me.

Just put it on mute. Kelly's nice to look at.

Just be sure to turn the sound back on when Tom and Pete start playing. It'll be the best cooking show on TV tomorrow!

If we were playing one of those "Dead or Alive" games, I would have guessed Pete Fountain was dead. I don't know why I thought that.

More McDermott diversion: Tom got written up last week on the New Yorker's blogs. Scroll down to May 23; there's even a video of him playing Beethoven.

Looks like they're getting closer to opening. Signs in the windows and condaments on the tables.

They also have their hours listed: 11am to 8pm weekdays and open "game" weekends. Glad to see another restaurant downtown take a shot at dinner.

Had lunch there today, and it was pretty good--not overwhelmingly delicious, but tasty. Meal was served very fast, and the price was about what you'd expect downtown.

Given that their product is better and unique, this place should be around a lot longer than NY deli.

I walked by it today - looked pretty crowded.

How quick was the service? NY Fresh Deli (or whatever that place was called) had notoriously slow service.

Edit: Never mind, just read your mention of it being fast.

New York NY was horribly slow. A simple caesar salad took 23 minutes one time.

But I suppose I could elaborage--it was incredibly fast. I placed my order, walked over to the beverage area, poured myself an ice tea, and quickly found a seat. I was just opening my book, and there was lunch. It had to be no more than a minute and a half, and may have been less than a minute. In summation, it makes Jimmy John's look slow.

EDIT: If anyone's interested, I had a pulled pork sandwich, a side of baked beans, and a pickle. With drink it came out to be $7.68.

Is it the same as KC Masterpiece? I guess I am primarily interested in the sauce. Straight KC Molassterpiece, or is it different? Sauce Choices? Do you think they are actually smoking meats etc there or trucking them in from a commissary?

Don't know that much about the industry to tell you if they're actually smoking there. I'd dobut it, but who knows?

They had bottles of KC Masterpiece bbq sauce on the table--the same bottles one'd find at the grocery store.

Masterpiece is a spinoff of KC Masterpiece.

They don't smoke on site for the downtown location.

I had the exact same lunch at an excellent BBQ joint in Joplin last week. And it was just five bucks! 8)

I don't expect to be overwhelmed by Masterpiece, but I love barbecue, so I'll give it a try.

It's a nice option for lunch or dinner downtown. And once SanSai opens here in a few weeks things will be on a roll.

SanSai in a few weeks? What else needs to possibly be done? The menus are illuminated, the junk is gone, and yesterday workers in SanSai garb were standing around. I am thinking more like today or Monday.
