So you would prefer empty space over a Joe Edwards run bowling alley?????
I'm just curious as to what you would like to see.
My guess is that he just leased it to someone else!

That article made me think that Flamingo Bowl may NOT happen at that location if Stanley doesn't get himself together. Maybe I misread something.

Well, Joe said "I signed the lease 1.5 years ago, and already have a liqour license."
Stanley said "It will happen. The hold up is my fault. Look for an April opening."
I don't know where you got the impression that it wouldn't happen.
Joe did say " I hope it happens."
I think that is just angst from a guy who is used to being the leaser, not the leasee, and does things at his own pace-fast.
I still have faith.

Yes that is where I got it from. Plus, six months out from the completion date and the space has no construction? Any of us condo residents would have been filing suit all over town had we had to deal with such a delay. I didn't get from the article that it definitively would not happen but just that it was less certain to happen now than it was in August. Actually I found Joe's skepticism very convincing. Plus, how much does he deal with before he (whether he has unrealistic expectations or not) decides to pull out and break this lease? Hopefully he has enough at stake or a penalty clause sufficient enough to deter that but that is my worry from his skepticism in addition to his apparent lack of total faith in Stanley.
I work with a tenant of another one of Stanley's projects where it has been alleged that things he said would happen for the project specifically did not to the point that the dispute continues now over a year later. So I may be predisposed to picking up on the skepticism in the article but it spoke more loudly to me than Stanley's assurances. Hopefully things like this article and our discussions calling attention to the matter will ensure that he feels pressure to make every effort to make it happen.
I really hope it does because I was really looking forward to being able to walk across the street to go bowling and ofcourse I love Edwards' concepts. Regardless, the lofts look great!
Any updates on the commercial space?

According to yesterday's SLBJ, Joe Edwards will close on his purchase of 15,000 sq ft of the ground on June 15th. An additional 2,000 sqft is being sold to retailer to open a chocolate store.
Now that Edwards owns the space, expect things to move pretty quickly...he is not one to sit on his hands
Another good thing about this i sjust having Edwards in the neighborhood, look at everything he has done in the loop after starting with Blue Hill, if he becomes more interested in downtown it could be huge

Lucas Lofts developer sells ground floor to Joe Edwards
St. Louis Business Journal - April 6, 2007
by Lisa R. Brown
After being stalled for more than a year, downtown is closer to getting a bowling alley at the Lucas Lofts at 1123 Washington Avenue.
Patrick Stanley, developer of the Lucas Lofts, is selling a large chunk of the ground floor retail to Joe Edwards. Stanley had been in talks with Edwards, owner of University City's Blueberry Hill, since 2005 about opening a Flamingo Bowl, martini bar and restaurant on the ground floor of the Lucas Lofts, but the project stalled in recent months over Stanley's inability to get financing for building out the space.

Sweet. Glad to see this actually moving foward. I'm not a paying customer, so I can't read the rest of the article, so does it say anything about a projected start date?
I beat the SLBJ to the scoop here: http://urbanstl.com/viewtopic.php?t=240 ... t=flamingosteve wrote:Sweet. Glad to see this actually moving foward. I'm not a paying customer, so I can't read the rest of the article, so does it say anything about a projected start date?
I can't read the article either, but this is what I found out the weekend of March 24th...
"Went out last night and met some people pretty close to the project. They said that Joe Edwards owns the space now. For what it's worth, construction may start around June and finish 4-5 months after..."

Thats good to hear....its disheartening walking past it and seeing it empty. I wonder if it will be as big if not bigger than his alley in the loop.

Quick question...my friend may rent a unit here, and was wondering where you guys take your dogs. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
The SLBJ article also mentioned that the bowling alley will be 15,000 sq ft and that Stanley is selling another 2,000 sq ft to someone who is going to open up a chocolate shop.

They moved over to Broadway.
There is a picture of the Flamingo Bowl sign in this month's issue of St. Louis Magazine. It's included in an article with Joe Edwards talking about opening up the bowling alley downtown.
It's a vertical sign with an electronic marquee at the base, similar to the Blueberry Hill marquee on the side.

Like that sign!
I am so happy that Wahington Avenue is taking on these great signs along the the district.

yes! The Downtown Residents Association is having their Christmas party at the Flamingo Bowl on 12/13 from 7:30 - 10:30. You should come and join us. I think admission is $5 for non-members.
