We ate there about probably 5:30 or 6:00 pm but they had a lot of workers there.

I was at LC at lunch today - very busy.



A thought occurred to me: was Target ever pursued for this development? It seems like it would be a great place for one, demographically speaking.

The new Office Max is pretty nice as well, one less reason to have to travel to south county to shop. (The office supply store on Kingshighway take me twice as long to get to as the ones in south county did.)

You're right. I hate to keep harping on traffic signal synchronization, but the timing of signals at many south St. Louis intersections is simply atrocious. Yesterday morning I dropped my son off at a relative's house in Oakville off Telegraph Road. That area has long been notorious for backed-up traffic, but since the lights have been timed differently it's a breeze. Even with construction at I-255, I traveled seven miles in roughly the same time it takes me to get from my house to Kingshighway and Chippewa (a distance of 2.5 miles).



The difference in time isn't the end of the world by any means, but for south St. Louis residents near the I-55 corridor, it's actually easier to drive to I-55 and Lindbergh Boulevard than the shopping near Kingshighway and Chippewa or Hampton Village. And we've been told for at least four years that there's an effort underway to synchronize traffic signals. Yeah, right. :wink:

Within the next 60 days a lease will be signed for a Cracker Barrel restaurant at Loughborough Commons according to Matt Villa.



Matt Villa said a drive-through bank will locate on a separate outparcel. The third outparcel will be a fast-food drive through restaurant.

I've never seen a Cracker Barrel in a city. But, considering that LC has already lost all urbanity, I think that Cracker Barrel is a pretty good addition.

As a Holly Hills resident, I bite my lip every time I go to "the commons". On one hand, I'm pissed that as a city dweller, my "county' friends talk about how convenient "that new shopping center is" to my house. I wish it didn't look like it belonged in Fenton, but it is just so darn convenient! I mean, the other morning I got a coffee at Starbucks (bite lip), got a haircut at Greatclips (lip now bloody), picked up flowers for my wife at Schnucks (gaping wound), and then picked up a new water heater at Lowes (I'm dying of blood loss)....all in one morning...



Not endorsing "cookie cutter" shopping centers over more city friendly designs...but I mean...we didn't have either before (just a dirtier Schnuck's)

And since that is the case, and a city theme, the developer doesn't have to care. Eventually this will be the same won't it, old and dirty I mean. Problably a little after the new one is built down the highway.



I'm curious, how many times did you get in and out of your car? Had the last item been carryable, would you have walked, or biked? Or even parked and walked from store to store?



My lips bleeding too. And I'm not even a Holly Hills resident.

Good point, I have both walked and biked to the commons. To add to what someone wrote earlier, both can be a hazard there with the car traffic, plus there was no bike rack at schnuck's at the beginning.



I got stitches on the lip, but they could break open again...I'm short on bread and milk...

There is that other possibility to consider instead of Chili's or Cracker Barrel where the big dirt lot sits empty: Metro Transit may still attempt to build that new south line for MetroLink and the Loughborough Commons lot is one of the key components to the proposal. If the line is shared with that which carries the Amtrak and the occasional freight train, there is always the likelihood that additional properties will be bought up along the tracks so they can add "safe harbor" tracks for the trains, both light-rail and regular train traffic. They held informational meetings last fall discussing the possible south routes for MetroLink because of the forthcoming Lemay casino. If the trains go to Lemay, then using the Loughborough Commons property could be a site for a STOP on the new tracks. However, either way, Loughborough Commons could be involved - either as a stop along the way to South St. Louis County, or as a possible end --- a stopping point reserved for a future expansion --- for an abbreviated line which gets some south commuters closer to home.

At $4.00/gallon for fuel/petrol those commuters who don't have MetroLink or MetroBus service may soon wish they had spoken out for a route in their neighborhood. At least at LC, the #8 Bates stops in both directions NOW.



Although I complain about things like the trees in Carondelet Park being knocked down, I still find walking to LC not so bad. Besides, as a regular bus rider, I can take the bus one direction during the day, shop for 14 minutes at the Desco Food Market aka Schnucks, check out, walk back up the hill, and bus back to within four blocks of home. Even if I miss the bus, my walk is less than 25 minutes, so I usually enjoy the walk unless I'm carrying lots of frozen and/or heavy food.

As I recall, that stretch of track that goes through Carondolet Park and past the Commons used to be double-tracked, but was reduced to a single a few years ago. I guess it would be easy (and cheap) to use the extra capacity for a MetroLink siding or whatever.

^Except the refined alternative adopted last fall now comes down Jefferson to I-55 and is on the east side of I-55 at Loughborough to avoid parkland. Per the conceptual design of the North-South Study, the Loughborough station would not have a park-and-ride lot and sit in the northeast quadrant of the interchange with the northbound on- and off-ramps relocated. Of course, there isn't any money for this latest design, let alone past concepts.
