Grover wrote:^ and the roles are reversed a bit with Lemp. The current owner purchased/stabilized the complex and now stands to reap a substantial return. I say good for them. There's a threshold somewhere where it seems reasonable to flip a property. Jump's lofts and Lemp pass the test for me. Can't wait to see what they do - what a developer/artist's dream!

Yeah, this could be one of the coolest developments in St. Louis.

Don't screw it up!!!

(just make sure to have plenty of parking) :P

If you've never done it, drop by the Lemp sometime to walk and stand around the base of the silos. I did it after a few beers at O'Malley's and their size, shape and brickwork are amazing. While you're there, try to think creatively how they may be reused.

I'm just thinking how cool it would be to have a cool restaurant/bar in those 4 windows right below the LEMP sign. What a view!

AND visit Reegan at Junque. It's a salvage shop with an entrance off Broadway (check for the old bikes with the "Junque" signs on them). He's a cool cat. I dropped in this past Sunday and he said the developer had been through a number of times asking him questions. For the forseable future he was told that he would remain a tenant. Given that it will take years to fully develop the brewery, it's good to hear that Reegan may stick around.

Are the Lemp and the International Shoe complex the same. Reegan's shop is greatl. I took a mini tour with him recently.

If the area could support it, I think that complex could be an incredible "Life Style" development. Only original and probably one of the more unique centers in the country. But then again getting enough bodies to come to the area to support such a huge shopping/entertainment area would be another.

Yes indeed. International Shoe purchased the site soon after the brewery closed - I think.

I just hope that there is some kind of microbrewery included as part of the redevelopment.

For the sake of all that is holy, somone please use the brew house for what it was built for. That's all I ask. Don't screw that complex up. Please keep the integrity!!!

Sorry about the massive post, but I thought this would be the ideal time to share these. I had the pleasure of touring the entire facility a few years back. These are my photos. What an incredible building inside, outside and underground. If Lemp is going to be lofts. SIGN ME UP! I have tons more pictures but these are the best ones.

Aren't those things cool? I imagine they were some sort of siphoning system.

Not so much to protect the innocent as, I have lost contact with those people so I probably shouldn't put their pictures on the net without permission. Not that it would really matter, I am just wierd about that stuff

There is a video someone shot in those caves below Lemp posted at...........http://www.mayorslay.com/stlouistraffic ... pelunk.asp

Also, there is a website, www.undergroundozarks.com where people obsess over getting into the various cave systems under St. Louis (with some surprising success). There are many caves under the city that have almost entirely been closed off, but they are such an important part of our heritage. Why do you think there were so many breweries here? I just wish someone would open one of the old systems up and set up a subterranean brew pub again. The city was crawling with them in the 19th century.

Did you see the photos from the Falstaff Brewery on undergroundozarks? The caves and sub-basements look a lot like Lemp. I wonder if back in the day, they connected somehow.

That's my site. And yes, you'd be really surprised if you knew a couple of the things we've found in St. Louis on the brewery cave front. :)
