I hope a certain extremely unpopular soon to be ex-President is taking notes
I feel ashamed that I have only NOW found this forum and, subsequently, this thread!
My name is Kyle, and I'm the manager at LBB Downtown.
We're thrilled to expand into a new neighborhood. We love it so far. It was love at first sight. The first time we saw you all, we fell madly in love with you. As we grow into this neighborhood and get comfortable, we're looking forward to providing a positive environment to peruse and purchase all sorts of great books, magazines, greeting cards, and other reading materials!
We're happy to get to know this community. That is essential for independent, local businesses like us. We got us a hard road to travel.
W00t.
As many of you noticed, moving in was a fast job, but we got it done and we've heard nothing but positive feedback since.
For the record, our hours are Mon-Sat: 10AM-6PM; and Sun: 11AM-4PM. We're considering extending hours seasonally.
We'll be providing books focused a bit more toward what our customers down here want, so if you stop by, just let me or any bookseller know what you would like to see on our shelves. We already know we'll be expanding our business section. We'll also have a law/legal section (which the CWE store does not have).
We pride ourselves on being VERY good with knowing our stock and being able to make specific recommendations, so if you are in the mood for something, don't be afraid to say, "I want something dark and mysterious." We will gladly point you toward some great books.
Also let us know if there are specific magazines you might like to see. we're hoping (TRYING!) to get the daily papers here, too (LATimes, SFChronicle, NYTimes, ChiTrib, WallStJour, etc.).
We'll also have LOTS more events forthcoming, as well as our grand opening. As details emerge, I'll make sure to swing by here and let you know all.
You can check out our website for events, too. You can do lots of amazing things there, like purchase books, waste your time, and read about our staff.
So, I'd like to extend a big SALUTATIONS and HELLO from the Left Bank Books family. Come in! Come in! and get to know us better, man!
(the first people to name the books I'm quoting in this post - they are in bold - will get a free Valentine's Day gift card when they pop in)

Hey, everyone. I wanted to let you all know that we have the date for our Grand Opening: March 20-22. We will have poetry and spoken-word readings, storytellers, an author event, and a LBB Friends Sale (15% off entire purchase for all our Friends).
More info will come at our website, but the weekend should be quite a lot of fun, and it's a bit more formal than just, "HEY, WE ARE OPEN!"
Wow thanks for all the great info. I have stopped in quite a few times already and the store is great.
If I had one request it would be great if your store carried STL Business Journals. I cant seem to find them anywhere and it would be great to have the convience to purchase them in your store.
Went by about 4:30 or so yesterday and there was a BIG crowd wrapped around the street for the Jimmy Carter signing. However, watching on News 4 last night they noted that the signing took place in the CWE. He didn't go there as well? Are they not aware there is this new location? They had video there any everything. This could have been a great opportunity to rep the new location.
Kyle - perhaps you can give a call to the station and have them issue a correction. If stuff like this airs now, I fear for when the news outlets are all in St. Charles: Old North St. Louis, Lafayette Square, CWE, Dogtown . . . eh, it's all the city . . .
Yes, Jimmy Carter did come to the DOWNTOWN location. Funny. The CWE and Downtown stores are NOTHING alike, and the scenery is completely different, too.
I'll let our media beastlet/events maven know about the mixup. I'm sure she'll get on it like the attack dog she is.
Things really are popping in the downtown community! We had lots of walk-ups at the Carter event, people who live and work in the area. You all rock.
We'll be having Amy Dickinson here next week (she writes the "Ask Amy" syndicated column and she's a regular guest on NPR's Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me), and I have just received word that we'll be having Walter Mosley later this year, though I'm not sure if he'll be downtown or in the CWE.
Left Bank Books negotiated perhaps one of the more favorable deals. Barry Leibman, co-owner of the business with Kris Kleindienst and Jarek Steele, said they were approached by Craig Heller, a principal with LoftWorks, which owns their building downtown and has just finished rehabbing the Syndicate Trust building across the street.
“We don’t pay rent,” Leibman said. “If we make money, he (Heller) shares in the profits. Times are difficult. If this offer hadn’t happened, it’s highly unlikely we would be doing this.”
I walked by the store today and saw a large-scale film crew filming inside and outside the store. It looked a little too large-scale to be a commercial shoot, anyone know anything better?
FYI: Seth Davis will be downtown tonight for a discussion and book signing of his book When March Went Mad.
ALSO, we'll have Steve Harvey downtown next Friday (March 13) to sign copies of his new book Act Like a Lady; Think Like a Man. I think it's going to be really big, and it's a ticketed event.
EVERY single person downtown should try to shop at this place at least once every month/few months. this is a huge investment in retail downtown; support your investment if you live or own downtown.
