You can hear the grasshoppers. It's fantastic, and there are so many more places like this where we can allow animals to benefit rather than just wasting time and energy mowing vacant lawns.
This picture doesn't really do it justice. It's a very serene setting now and infinitely better than it would be if it were grass.

Katherine Ward Burg Garden SHOULD have been on this lot. Its current lot should be a building....

Walked around yesterday, saw work being done on the former Muddy Waters. Talked to a guy who said it's becoming a BBQ restaurant, should be open by mid winter.
Old Morgan Street Brewery annex building is getting tuckpointed this week
Also saw a liquor license notice for something called "The Vault" in the space to the left of Second Street Sandwiches.

I’m not going to say the exact number or who but everyone would be shocked how many Cardinals players live on the Landing during the season. Like double digits in terms of % of roster.

I'm going to guess 8, or 20% of the 40 man roster.
C'mon DB, validate this arbitrary guess.

The casino continues to make the landing more prison-like by the day. I guess they're planning on completely closing First Street, one block west of the permanently closed floodwall.
Reminds me, I need to start my long-planned "St. Louis: City of barriers" thread. There's so much content.

This was probably done in reaction to the homeless encampment on the north riverfront.

The casino was supposed to redevelop those blocks a long time ago. Slay let them off the hook for peanuts.eee123 wrote: ↑Nov 22, 2023The casino continues to make the landing more prison-like by the day. First Street is closed to cars and seemingly soon to be closed to pedestrians, since they've blocked the sidewalks at both ends.
LK Sullivan is closed by a permanent floodwall.
Second Street has a casino guard shack and gate that requires a worker to open it.
The next street West and adjacent to the interstate, Lumiere Blvd, doesn't even really have a sidewalk.
What are we even doing here?

Fencing off the homeless. It can’t stay like this but kind of get it, city is hopelessly ineffective at getting those people off the street and there have been a lot of incidents

I think we need a Pedestrian Infrastructure Ls thread, doesn't seem like the City is moving in a positive direction overall on this.
Just like the suburbs, but instead of "one more lane will fix it," it's "one more barrier."
The owners of the casino are not responsible or capable of solving the issue of homelessness. They are just trying to run a casino, and the nearby camp interferes with this. Real issue is how does the city get people off the street, so that investors don’t feel the need to protect their assets like this

Which is why the casino shouldn't own the streets. The casino can harden and patrol their lots and buildings as much as they want, but when they create a giant barrier for everybody else, that's a problem.
That’s fair, that casino deal has been a disaster for the landing. I think they are responsible for closing and demoing the famous Mississippi Nights bar.
I do think we need to keep our eye on the ball here and recognize why they felt the need to do this.

Five Aces BBQ is now open in the former Show Me's space. They are definitely boot strapping it, so maybe support them so they can buy a sign
