^Ouch. I ride one of those skinny-tire bikes. I can't do gravel.
Funny you say that. I was thinking awhile back (before I knew the Union Electric and Light Plant was still in use) that this should be the site of a cool indoor/urban putt-putt bar/concert hall/venue. Eighteen holes, starting in the main entrance room (with a full bar and tables, couches, etc.), winding through the building's interior, maybe you putt into an old-timey gated elevator/lift that takes you up to the third floor where you finish that hole, out onto a new third-floor patio/river overlook (again, with a bar and music) and eventually back around (down some stairs?) into the main hall.thewayofthearch wrote:Anyone else feel like that sign is welcoming them to Putt-Putt golf?
It'd be an interesting and unique reuse of an industrial building (again -- didn't know then it still produces energy) where kids and families can come during the day and adults can party/putt at night. Let's call it "Near North Country Club" with a stylized shield with the two 'Ns' and 'Cs' crossed by a couple of putters.

Now that's awesome.Kevin B wrote:Let's call it "Near North Country Club" with a stylized shield with the two 'Ns' and 'Cs' crossed by a couple of putters.

Is there any traction with this project or any idea who is responsible for the site? I stopped by the park the other day and was quite dissapointed that it had been taken over by homeless. How old all their belongings and garbage had been there, I'm not sure...but it looks like an abandoned settlement now.
Any chance we can get a day to go there and have a beautification/cleaning? What about adding bars or more decorative walls to make the little "room" (or opening whatever you want to call it) under the concrete observation deck unaccessable as a living room?
The site used to be a hidden gem...now it's a dump. =(

Finally! GRG purchase the Laclede Power Building - will develop a plan for it -

^ awesome news and early Christmas present! With this, the Trestle, Cotton Belt and, yes, yummy chocolate, things will get pretty sweet on N. Riverfront. (pun intended.)
^ My two cents to GRG - I think this would be a great place to add a skate park.

A skate/BMX park would be really cool somewhere along the N. Riverfront. This also reminds me that GRG has the large parking lot for the old President's Casino to redevelop as well.
Further north, the North Riverfront Park is slated for some serious upgrades through the City park bond issue (the one passed before the separate ales tax) and I believe GRG will be doing upgrades at the Old Chain of Rocks site.

This could all be part of Great River Greenways Phase II of the Central Riverfront Link.

^ as you can see a skatepark is being proposed, but for the land west of the laclede power building.
^ Thanks Goat314, didn't realize phase II plans were out there.
My revised two cents to GRG - ditch the beer garden idea and go for the beach idea floated on a few of the threads for the property that Pinnacle gave them. I think any number of private businesses could make a beer garden idea work. However, it is going to take GRG to get a beach on the promenade built.

This is nice, but the building I really want to see them buy is the Union Light and Power plant on the riverfront. That building, however, is still used by the utility.
Ha, every time I road by there, I was always wondering what was in there since it sounded like generators were still going. But it seems anyone can just go in there....Presbyterian wrote:This is nice, but the building I really want to see them buy is the Union Light and Power plant on the riverfront.
