As far as I know, the power house project stalled when a bank denied the last loan application last fall.

I know Trailnet is selling one of those buildings down there. It might be the power house?

The power house has been sold.

I'm not sure what details I can add. It's been sold. Trailnet no longer owns it.

Looks like a lot of nice upgrades to the riverfront trail this year! I went all the way to chain of rocks bridge on Monday evening, and they have been working on it in several areas. I think they are installing water fountains along the way so you can fill your bottle, which will be very nice! They have also cleared out a lot of brush and other areas along the river. Also looks like the trail has been repaved and new bollards installed. Also some new art, signage and new parking near the landing.

As for the safety question, I have found it safe to ride at night even when its dark.

Question: I rode from the power station up to chain of rocks, then over to Illinois side. Can you ride back down south thru Illinois and cross back over the Eads Bridge? From the trail map, it doesn’t look like it.

^ While working at Big Shark one day I had a very nice Danish man come in who tried to do just that. He turned south on the east side of the Chain of Rocks Bridge and ended up riding through East St. Louis. He said he got a flat somewhere on the Eastside but chose to ride back home on the rim instead of stop.

Good call! Cars are easier to fix than bullet wounds.

I contacted trailnet after I read they sold the powerhouse building. They said the building was sold to a developer with a contract in place that requires the developer to build some kind of trailhead. I was also told there would be a park down by the river.

^ well that's no fun - why did you call and actually get an answer? Now we can't engage in what we're best at - unfounded, wild speculation.

Tim Tucker, a developer who teamed up with Bob Cassily on the City Museum and other projects, is closely involved with Trailnet. Maybe he has something to do with this.

Bob Cassily did build a ramp like thing in his City Museum style going across the trail into the building, so I wouldn't doubt there is some sort of connection with Tucker, and maybe Cassily.

Even though Trailnet sold the building, from what I understand the new developers will do something along the lines of what Trailnet planned - a trail head, with some retail and maybe office space. Trailnet remains a minority shareholder in the project.

Given the costs of the remediation and the likely costs of a build-out, the "office tenant" would probably have to be one of the Emirates.

I'll have to get further details. I know a lot of tax credits are involved.

In addition to the trail updates, the trailhead now has new parking "for trail users only" and signage just south of the power buildings. I'm impressed.

At least there's a big sign. How many signs are there directing the gazillion visitors a year who visit the Arch grounds to the Riverfront trail?
