And the fact it's not final/set is exactly why I'm voicing my displeasure in hopes the subsidy is cut.  All the numbers I've read/heard are excessive.  anyway, more when the socialism is solidified.
Google says $600 million from the City and $350 million from the State, almost entirely limited to redirection of taxes generated by the stadium.
Sure sure sure - socialism stadiums are a necessity for any non top-2 US MSA but $1B is excessive.  KC doesn't need the 4th most expensive baseball stadium ever.  2x as much as ATL? absurd.

The Royals ‘think big.’ Proposed stadium at Crown Center would be the fourth-most expensive major league ballpark

(not arguing with ldai_phs here. Just adding more of a POV from myself.)
That’s the going cost for new baseball stadiums today. All of the proposed or under construction ones are in the same range or higher. Sucks how much construction inflation has gone up over the last 10 years.

KCATA to cut 25% of its service after the World Cup, partially to maintain frequency on the Troost Ave MAX BRT line.

This has been an ongoing back and forth for 2 years now. No fault of World Cup

World Cup probably helped delay cuts if anything. I'm not trying to attack the World Cup or KC hosting here though.

Fox4: Kansas City ranked worst World Cup host city for fan experience: New study

Some highlights from the article:
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A recent study by The Action Network, a sports gambling website, ranked Kansas City as the worst World Cup host city for fan experience.

The study identified factors including travel time to the stadium, expected matchday temperatures and limited amenities around the venue as reasons for the low ranking.

The study analyzed various components of the fan experience across 16 host cities, including travel time from the airport to the stadium, expected matchday temperature, walkability around the stadium, bar density near the stadium and hotel availability near the stadium.

Kansas City received the lowest ranking for overall fan experience. Vancouver, Toronto, Seattle, Mexico City and Atlanta were identified as the top five host cities in the study.

Arrowhead Stadium is also projected to be the hottest venue, with an average matchday temperature of 87.6 degrees. The walkability around Arrowhead was rated 15 out of 100 by the study.
The study’s methodology unfairly favored cities with downtown stadiums or nearby entertainment districts. - "unfairly"? HUH?

Arrowhead Stadium was described as being in an isolated location. Arrowhead sits with a Best Western hotel, a Taco Bell restaurant and a couple of gas stations nearby.

Ouch.

How did KC get to be one of the host cities? $$$ at the right persons?

Arrowhead surrounds suck. But I don’t believe the article’s claim that it takes 2.5 hours to drive from KCI to the stadium. Should take you 45 minutes in an Uber at most. Quick 15-20 minutes from downtown.

KC spent big on soccer infrastructure and then took the actual bid process more seriously than other cities.

Not mentioned as much in the articles but MSP and Chicago dropped out or were cut early. Was between KC, Nashville, and Cincinnati for a “mid west host”. KC had much stronger stadium and practice facility assets.

If Nashville had built their new Titans stadium earlier, things probably would have shaken out differently.

Streetcar hit 40K ridership last weekend Sunday. Single day record. Procurement for NEPA and Concept design on a 5-6 mile east/west route should start soon.

^Is it fair to compare a free system to a pay system? Especially when they are seeing a major tourist bump with the WC?

That being said, I agree that we are not doing a good job growing the Metrolink system. Never have.

Best to compare the free systems where KC outcompetes Cincinnati, etc. Interestingly, if you look at entire bus systems going to a free model it usually hurts ridership (KC is a recent example, Austin an older example that was reversed).

Unfortunately, I think a completely free system would create significant security issues here in St. Louis..

The security gates will do wonders for securing the system IMO. While I’ve mostly felt safe on the Metrolink, keeping off random, non-paying individuals should help keep the Metro much more secure.

It appears that Aerolíneas Argentinas has cancelled both return flights from Kansas City to Buenos Aires (EZE) on June 17th. The flight from Buenos Aires to Kansas City on the 14th is also no longer bookable but is still showing in the schedule, usually a sign that an airline is in the process of canceling the flight. This leaves one EZE to MCI on June 13th. Seat maps for the June 13th and 14th flights to MCI show only a few seats sold.

Just five days ago it was reported the airline had cut other routes due to slow demand for WC and fuel prices. Aerolineas Argentinas cut special World Cup flights on fuel costs and low demand

With the World Cup coming to Kansas City this summer, the international governing body for the sport reserved up to 5,000 hotel rooms for many of the nights that the organization’s officials and business partners would be in town. That means FIFA originally requested local hotels to reserve tens of thousands of room nights for the duration of the tournament that were meant for just the organization. But as the event drew closer, FIFA canceled the majority of those reservations — leaving local hotel managers to scramble to fill rooms this summer that they had hoped were already spoken for.

Walker Swan, general manager for Crowne Plaza hotel in downtown Kansas City, said he never expects a group to use all of the rooms they block for major events. But FIFA’s cancellation was larger than usual.

“It was a lot, if I’m speaking honestly,” said Swan, who is also the president for the Hotel and Lodging Association of Greater Kansas City. “Without getting into specifics, it was a majority of the rooms that they had blocked,” he added. FIFA’s 5,000 rooms per night would have been significant. To put that into perspective, that amounts to nearly 14% of the 36,000-plus hotel rooms in the Kansas City metro each night.

The global soccer organization was also able to drop most of those rooms without paying a cancellation fee, a perk that is not always granted to organizations blocking off a large number of rooms.

Altogether, the cancellations likely means millions of dollars worth of unrealized spending in the metro. It’s seemingly another example of how the international soccer tournament may not live up to lofty expectations of FIFA or public officials who promised an economic boom for host cities, like Kansas City.

I got a hotel across the street from SoFi Stadium in LA for $300 for the night of a game. Could actually get it for $191 if I use my military ID I have to get on bases for work but once a while you got to be ethical

KC Current appear to be pursuing a $1.4bn Phase II to their Current Landing district. This will include a major stadium expansion, new parking garage, and mixed use development.

Stadium would increase to 18,000 seats with improvements to the existing areas as well. Stadium project supported by $235 million in TIF bonds.

^ Why won't SKC move there?  Why stay out in the boonies?  Never may much sense to me to build out there in the 1st place, but I'm on the other side of the state.

Children's Mercy is just 15 years old - It was the nicest stadium in the league when it opened - Out of the top tier now still better then Colorado or Dallas (though Dallas is being upgraded) - I have yet to make a visit to a Current game, but my friend is a season ticket holder says its not as nice and still would be smaller then CMP after the expansion.

I don't see Sporting going anywhere for at least a decade, the stadium is decent and it suits them, also they are not flush with cash.
