Didn't see any post on this yet... With the TIF approved, IKEA is on track. The article also mentions a residential building to the west of the IKEA that also received a TIF.

Same thought, waiting for the renderings of the residential building included in the TIF. Which gets me to a question, Wouldn't some basic information if not renderings be needed for TIF approval?

square footage, number of units, value of contract, etc.....

I believe they said it would be four or five stories with retail on the bottom. No renderings yet.

Legislation has been moving through the Board of Aldermen to vacate Duncan on the block west of Vandeventer, as well as other city property.

^ Have to agree Framer. Maybe its the inconsistent or multiple colors to my untrained eye or maybe the containers just don't look good stacked in that fashion or maybe just way too many containers. Instead, this looks like a disgruntle port employee decided to stack the containers on the grain elevator next door before he told his employer to kiss my..

But I give credit to whoever did the rendering. They did a great a great job of selling the idea on paper. The rendering gives me a completely different impression versus what was the final outcome.

Back to St. Louis silos, I think it would tacky if big IKEA letters were painted on the Silo's as the store itself will be obvious enough from the freeway. However, a play on lighting so at night you get IKEA or maybe a changing montage every couple weeks just as Google changes it search page.

Google "facade mapped projections". Run something like that a couple times a night and change it on a regular basis and you have quite an attraction. You could also sell sponsorships or placements in the light show to fund it.

No. Thankfully, two separate conversations.

A great thing to see on WB 64/40.

sweet news indeed!

I know a lot of people have complained about no retail planned for the new SLU-oriented apts coming across the street; while I think a small bit of retail frontage would be good, I would much rather have the Gerhart Block as the focus for retail in that immediate vicinity.

And this corner will need some serious bike/pedestrian examination.

Great news. I was worried that block would get "Biondified" and we'd end up with another block with fences, gates and fountains.

I really love this building and so happy to see it come back to life.... With Biondi gone from SLU maybe the days at SLU will become brighter much more forward and progressively cutting edge...

I believe Cortex is poised to announce the plans for the mixed-use building that will be next to IKEA, but I can't recall if there have been any plans discussed for the land they cleared next to the Gerhart Block. Anyone know?

Yes, the mixed-use is coming soon. I haven't heard anything specific about the northwest corner of Vandeventer and Forest Park, though.

^ What's kinda odd is that they are starting to clear the area to the west where the Silo Lofts will go but it looks like Laclede Gas workers are still on site where the IKEA will go.

^ Its on its way down 270 to 70 to KC. They purposely had it shipped thru the STL to rub it in... Yes, I'm joking...

A buddy of mine works for SM Wilson. He said a lot of the work required for the project involves existing utilities under the site. I would a assume there's a lot of gas lines as well as electric, sewers, etc. Any utility work is usually done by the utility. So you might see Laclede folks there for a while.

"Besides, IKEA hasn't even closed on the Cortex district land they'll be building on, Solomont reports. The land will cost about $30 million."
