People often think larger cities are more cosmopolitan and refined. It also means there are more odd people to make you laugh.

Saint Louis doesn't need IKEA. It needs Canadian Tire.

Take this with a grain of salt, however I am hearing from a few people that the City of Collinsville is in the process of approving an expansion of the Collinsville Crossings shopping district further to the south. This would take over a rather large field, and apparently consist of a Target, CostCo, Lowes and IKEA. This would be in addition to the existing Wal-Mart, Home Depot, and Walgreens.

Again, I heard this second hand however I know that the city has been fairly aggressive in wanting to add more retail and it wouldn't surprise me if they did choose this area due to the proximity to Highway 55/70 and 255.

VPR611 - very respectively, I believe you've been provided inaccurate information...

IKEA - no, they have their site in St. Louis metro and it's not in Collinsville or Illinois. It will be public soon and I'm sure most of you know where it's going if you follow the news.

Lowe's - not even sure if they're doing new stores right now nor have a RE department. Eventually, I can see a store in Collinsville for them. Maybe in a couple years.

Target - similar to Lowes, except they do have a RE department, very limited store growth and could eventually come to this area in the next 5-10 years.

Costco - very unlikely. They want a store in the Brentwood/ R-Heights area next and don't even have a store in Fairview Heights or Edwardsville yet. Maybe someday in a very distant future as the third store in the Metro East.

With this said, I believe Menards has been looking in Collinsville.

Thanks,
KS

That would be a perfect location. However, I thought that was a near perfect location for a soccer stadium too. I do not think it is the perfect location for a Menards.

This theoretical proposal combined with the Mini dealership at Sunnen just reaffirms this entire area as big box retail Mecca. #disappointed

^ Can picture a great mixed use/residential place where the Home Depot is located, maybe even make use of all the parking spaces Metro built next door :) Then Dierbergs does the same on the other side of the metro tracks. One of these inner suburbs has to think outside the box,

Heck, too bad that IKEA can't just replace Home Depot and make use of the Metro Parking Garage. But I believe Home Depot is actually in Brentwood and Ikea/Menards will be in Richmond Heights if I got that correct.

^And Lowes just down the street is in Maplewood. They should call that area 'Tool Town' or something. If you need tools or home improvement products, you can't go wrong in that area. It is unreal how stupid and divided this area is. This is a prime example of the ridiculousness that makes this region so divided. 3 towns, 3 home improvement stores, just blocks apart. Ridiculous!

You're going to need some tools to put together that Sweedish furniture that everybody and their grandma will be buying...

Did news of Ikea just drop on this website? I pray it's location is Hadley but my smart wager is Chesterfield.

Any other wagers?

Beyond Allen wrenches, what other tools are needed?

There is also a nicely remodeled Ace Hardware just around the corner on Manchester.
