The post is up and the free standing IKEA sign shouldn't be far behind.

(Should look like this.)

I love this reader comment from the above link:
Please oh please open a store in Nashville!! This is such a hub for people traveling from all over everywhere with our international airport - THIS is where the next IKEA needs to be!!
Think of all the furniture those international air travelers are going to buy while they're in Nashville!

See, it's not just St. Louisans that are delusional.

Unbelievably hilarious.

It's probably the most overrated city in the world.

Yes, I want to make sure that lots is covered with cameras and security. Just ONE bad story would freak everyone, well almost everyone, out.

Well....sorry.

I do like they thought about the view from the cafe and the windows. IIRC every IKEA I've been to has the cafe on the first floor down by the checkout, or on the top floor buried inside the building. Plus at 450 seats it sounds like it will be much larger.

There are a few interesting tidbits in the STL Today article, such as:

"The store will be the first of the Swedish retailer's stores to be built only using LED lighting. It'll also be the first Ikea to open selling only LED lights as Ikea is phasing out the sale of compact fluorescent bulbs and halogen lights..."

^ Also opening up in the general area by that time or soon after will be the STLCOP building, the new STORZ building, the Environmental Management building, the Hilton2Home Hotel, the Standard and West Pine Lofts. I'm not sure when the Gerhardt Block project is due for completion but it also looks like it is coming along nicely.

But the Whole Foods won't open until April 1, according to nextstl (not sure about the apartments).

I was making reservations for elsewhere and I checked the Grove Hilton Home 2 website out of curiosity. They show July 27th as the opening.

Also, if they aren't going to pave Vandeventer and Forest Park Aves before opening that will be a pretty poor introduction to Saint Louis for visitors.

This store certainly seems to have more glass than other IKEAs I've seen.

I wouldn't expect anything less from the city. But between all the big trucks and the work on the opposite corner there hasn't been a window yet for paving the horrible streets in the area. I would home the city has it one their list.

On the other hand, the resurfacing job completed a a short time ago on N. Vandeventer from Lindell north to the biker bar at N. Market has resulted in a ride smoother than a baby's derriere, which I'm sure said bikers appreciate. Also, the lights and their timing seems to be improved.

Store is pretty much done and looks sharp on the inside and outside. Grand opening is the 30th...

Three major areas that need to be addressed soon are the new Metro station (lots of people are asking about when they're going to get that built), the solo lofts project (which I anticipate will get some more traction once IKEA is open), and getting that old rail line transformed into a bike trail. That's my own personal dream... To see it lit up and connecting SLU to CORTEX
