I'm pretty sure it got taken down and replaced with a sign about the hall of fame for a couple weeks, but then went back up after the fire.GoHarvOrGoHome wrote: ↑Mar 04, 2022I don't think the for sale sign ever got taken down. Hasn't closed yet
Seems to still be moving forward:
I do suspect this one will take a lot of heavy lifting to get it done though.
https://www.bizjournals.com/stlouis/new ... utler.htmlWith no development experience, Butler’s vision of building a Gospel Hall of Fame inside the historic church appealed to developer Steve Smith and his firm New + Found, which opened the City Foundry development last year. Despite a fire last fall that damaged the steeple, the nonprofit effort backing the Hall of Fame has the church under contract and is moving ahead with an ambitious $22 million plan to raise money while gaining state and city support. The campaign will kick off with special fundraising days at Six Flags in May and at a St. Louis Cardinals game Aug. 27, when Hall of Famer Ozzie Smith will throw out the first pitch to promote "Gospel Music Day" at Busch Stadium.

noticed the sign Gospel Museum coming is back up on the front lawn
That's good. This and the proposed apartments across the street will do a lot for that area.mikenewell48 wrote: ↑May 13, 2022noticed the sign Gospel Museum coming is back up on the front lawn

This is a pipe dream but good to see PGAV helping with what I assume is pro bono work
If it's just a pipe dream, it's been going on for quite a few years now. Somebody's got a bunch of money tied up in this thing, whatever it is.

I would really like to see them get ambitious and start the project already

3 apparent scrappers were just parked right in front of the future gospel HoF. I noticed on my walk today the antique door handles are gone.

I have been really worried about that church since the tornado, it's frustrating they have not covered the roof damage.
I don't want this to sound, uh, problematic, but it would be nice if the institutional Jewish community living out in the county fundraised from their wealthier members to repair all the old synagogues in the CWE, West End, Lewis Place & Hamilton Heights rather than let them rot and be demo'd by neglect. White flight from the integrated city seems like something to atone for to me.
"Woman who pitched gospel museum is charged with fraud"
https://www.ksdk.com/article/news/local ... 2?tbref=hp
The woman who pitched a now-stalled gospel museum project in the Central West End has been charged with fraud, along with five others. A former downtown St. Louis nightclub owner and mayoral candidate also faces new charges.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office in St. Louis said it charged Monica Butler, 59, along with Raymond Porter Jr., 64, David Holmon, 54, Latrice Davis, 40, Dana Kelly, 47, and Alexander Sampson, 39, in connection with an alleged scheme to fraudulently obtain pandemic relief loans.
A federal indictment alleges the group obtained more than $8 million through fraudulent Paycheck Protection Program and Economic Injury Disaster Loan applications between 2020 and 2024.
Butler was the incorporator of the nonprofit Gospel Music Hall of Fame Inc., which was behind a proposed $22 million museum project at the former Second Baptist Church at 500 N. Kingshighway Blvd. The project has since stalled, and an architecture firm sued the nonprofit earlier this year, alleging it is owed more than $197,000 in unpaid work. An indictment said Butler used fraudulent pandemic funds to help fund the museum project.
