Made my morning, GC has made more progress in the past 2 years (in a bad economy) then in the 6 preceeding (mostly good economy) 5 more years of progress, we could be looking at a really nice urban district
I agree that there has been tremendous progress in the area over the last two years. I couldn't access the website for the article on the sun theatre. What was the basic run down on this project? Also, any word on the Hyatt hotel project?

New installation in Grand Center as provided by ArchCity over on SSP. Very cool addition to the area. Keep the neon coming! Not sure if someone could re-size it but the whole sign says "Art" and changes colors.

I believe that building is on Washington east of Grand, just east of Jazz at the Bistro and just west of KDHX's under-renovation studios.roger wyoming II wrote:where is this exactly?
Edit: And this is the west-facing wall, facing the Fox.
Just drove by this. Looks really sweet! We are producing our first event in Grand Center this week and I am pretty pumped about the future. This is our festival: http://www.compassimprov.org

Just thinking, Nelly's Vatterot School would have been a great fit here. Too bad. Still, very exciting times for Grand Center

^On Friday, I posted the story on Skyscraperpage.com Forum.
Great, great news. I hope they have cleaned and re-mediated the theater already. Perhaps that is what they are planning soon.
With all of the other touch-ups and construction completed and underway, I wonder if they are going through with Theatre Alley or if this is a part of the new Public Media Commons?

Is the Palladium not technically part of the Grand Center historic district?Schoemehl said the theater is the second to last vacant building in the Grand Center historic district. He said the last vacant building, the Missouri Theater located at 634 N. Grand Ave., plans to be renovated in the first quarter of this year.

^ It's certainly hasn't been part of the Grand Center, Inc. plan, but it should be.
Nifty new awning on the Humbolt Building, with cool, red neon strip lighting.

Has there been any recent news about redoing the FP Ave and Grand intersection?

I believe at this point it's on the city's wish list. When there will be money to pay for is another matter.
Grand Center Arts Academy has a website for the renovation of the Sun theater: http://www.grandcenterartsacademy.org/promotion/3260/
It looks like some internal demo has already started. There are some great photos on the site. Here's a sampling:

Do they plan on ever getting rid of those bushes in the middle of the street? Because bushes don't belong in the middle of a street.
