Unconfirmed reports that a Starbucks & Chipotle will be taking over the Grand Saucer.
Ok, well where did you hear this from? Interesting combo. Sounds much better than that crappy Del Taco...rawest1 wrote:Unconfirmed reports that a Starbucks & Chipotle will be taking over the Grand Saucer.

Yep. Some really want a local restaurant/company and I guess I would too, but this has been a Phillips 66 gas station and a Del Taco for the past 40 years. Burritos and coffee would seem to fit a need and bring quite a bit of activity to this spot.
Awesome. Hope its true.rawest1 wrote:Unconfirmed reports that a Starbucks & Chipotle will be taking over the Grand Saucer.

if true, that will be the first Chipotle in the STL market, no? I believe the closest one to the city is in U-City Loop. What's next, a Dierbergs?
I don't understand your thought process, here. There are already fast-food burrito restaurants (Qdobas) in the "STL market," as well as regional grocery chains (Schnuck's). What do you mean, exactly?Mark Groth wrote:if true, that will be the first Chipotle in the STL market, no? I believe the closest one to the city is in U-City Loop. What's next, a Dierbergs?
I assume Mark is referring specifically to St. Louis City (there are currently no Chipotle or Dierberg's locations in the St. Louis city limits). I think he is suggesting that Chipotle's proposed location in midtown might spur a trend for other chains to venture east of Skinker. Am I right here, Mark?rawest1 wrote:I don't understand your thought process, here. Many people like chains and choices. I am happy to see more businesses choose St. Louis and not shy away from the market such as Trader Joe's supposedly has.rawest1 wrote:I don't understand your thought process, here. Thanks for clarifying. I was genuinely curious; sorry if I came off as standoffish. It's difficult to convey tone via words.

Speaking of gas and the old days of going through that drive through...
It's official... Starbucks and Chipotle will call the Mothership home.

Darn. I was hoping for the proposed Pi Burger. But...saucer saved!stlgasm wrote:It's official... Starbucks and Chipotle will call the Mothership home.

A Chipotle and a Starbucks should do well right there across Grand from the dorms, but those aren't two franchises really known for embracing unique designs and challenges like the saucer building will present. Presumably it would remain a drive-through. Hopefully they do exterior work to encourage walk-ups and dine-ins.
So will the occupy the same building? Or are they adding a building? I wouldn't think it would be big enough for both Chipotle and Starbucks.

^ There will be an addition to the east. I haven't seen a rendering or plans for it yet.
Good deal. Hopefully this will increase some foot traffic and persuade SLU and the City to work together on slowing/reducing the car traffic on Grand. Every time I drive through there during the day on a Mon thru Fri, I'm afraid I'm going to run over some SLU student trying to cross. Especially when cars are turning from Grand on to Forest Park. That's a confusing intersection for drivers and not friendly to someone walking.

That is a terrible intersection.pat wrote:Good deal. Hopefully this will increase some foot traffic and persuade SLU and the City to work together on slowing/reducing the car traffic on Grand. Contrary to what Alderman Marlene Davis stated recently, developer Rick Yackey now denies reports of Chipotle and Starbucks at the former Del Taco space.

Just got off the phone with owner of the old Del Taco who says rumors of a Chipotle/Starbucks are not true. Rick Yackey: no lease signed.

We'll keep watching this. Wednesday night Alderwoman Marlene Davis told several news outlets that Yackey had confirmed to her that new tenants would be Starbucks/Chipotle. He's now saying there's no lease signed and that he needs to talk to his lawyer before saying more...
