Well, sure. And we're "slated" to get a new Mississippi River bridge.

CS wrote:How long ago was that? It's been vacant for quite a few years, hasn't it?

We shared space with World Sports Promotions on the top floor (with the deck) until about 1987, when we moved over to the then-newly-remodeled ground floor of the Park Plaza, facing Maryland Plaza. I don't remember how long World Sports stayed after we left, but I'd guess they moved out before 1990. There was also a guy who ran a rug warehouse on the lower floors (might have even been Dan Powell, I don't remember all the ownership details).

What if restrictions on the purchase of cans of spray paints were the same as sudafed? maybe some stores wouldn't sell the paint, maybe some taggers would get discovered.

Here in Chicago you can't purchase spray paint within the city limits. That however, would do much good in STL since the "city" is decidedly smaller.

I think a return to the old European model of public punishment and humiliation would be a step in the right direction for certain graffiti artists. We could set up the stocks down by the Stan The Man statue, lock the punks in them during Cardinal Games, and everyone could dump peanut shells and warm beer on them for a few hours. Then, we let them go. So much better than a silly little fine.

i always find it amusing to find graffiti on vacant burger kings off of bellefontaine road or something, like who wants to even look at that sort of building in the first place, much less walk away feeling offended or impressed by the tag.

I, for one, would like the thank those responsible fine graffiti along Metrolink between the Forest Park and CWE stations that was added over the weekend.

Your creativity of work just shows how vibrant a city we live in. I especially like your use of colors the "F*ck tha cops" and the "Die f*cking pigs." We should all applaud these fine artists as their inventive use of the word "F*ck".

Please make sure these treasures are saved.

Outstanding. Truly a masterpiece created in an unfettered frenzy of creativity. The passion of the artist is abundantly obvious. His rejection of the conventional lexicon is clearly symbolic of his rejection of "Tha" oppressive society in which he lives. He claims the language of the oppressors, makes it his own, and uses it to express his hatred for the system that created it. Not since Leonidas at Thermopolyae has one taken a stand against such overwhelming odds. The greatest minds of our time should compose paeans celebrating this brave poet-warrior to be shouted from the top of the arch........Either that or just shove him in front of a metrolink train and be done with it.

I didn't get this at all until I realized that you meant "Thermopylae" and not "Thermopolyae. Bravo, indeed!

I think you're overinterpreting. Clearly, Thermopolyae was the ancient precursor of the California university in San Luis Obispo.

On my way to Soulard I noticed the stone/concrete block retaining wall just sought of I-55@Gravois was spray painted with graffiti lingo that I can't understand. The retaining wall is near the A-B Brewery and the recently converted church(?).

It must have happened over the weekend. I actually called the cops and they said the culprit was almost caught. :x

Now, unless the whole retaining wall is repainted, the retaining wall will look like ass. I know there are a few urbanstlouisans that like the idea of graffiti but how do you condone this new graffit? Is it art? or a nuisance? or???

It makes me sad that someone goes around destroying property/ the public infrastructure. I take pride in my city. I love my city. Graffiti has it's place.... but i'm trying to figure out where............ :(

How dare you say anything about these true artisans! You are a short-sighted narrow minded person who doesn't understand expression and art! Can we get an admin to ban this moron? [sarcasm off]

I saw the same stuff was new over the weekend. *sigh*

Removing grafitti sounds like a great idea for some community service activity, as well as picking up trash around the area. Whatever happened to the chain gangs? We could use inmates to clean up our town and keep them out of the gym and get them some fresh air.

I believe there is one or maybe a couple of clowns that are doing this. It just recently became a problem, IMO. I hope these clowns are caught and are made to clean up their own mess.

The south wall of the Roberts Orpheum got hit hard. They spray painted all over the stucco and some on the limestone where the facade returns. I'm thinking castration is in order. Its easy to get spray paint off of stucco right?

[sarcasm on]Wrong, wrong WORNG! These artists should be celebrated and heralded as saviors of the city.[sarcasm off]

If this continues we're going to end up looking like New York City circa 1977.
